POSITION DETAILS

This Student Athletics Director will report to the Vice President of Student Affairs at the City College of New York. This position is responsible for the development, administration and supervision of the College's intercollegiate athletic program. The Director oversees the administration of athletic facilities, budgets, and personnel. The Director will provide leadership over functions such as recruitment of student athletes, athlete eligibility, compliance, training, and sports information and communication.

In addition to the Overview duties, the Student Athletics Director will:

Ensure the maintenance and safety of all athletic facilities and equipment, coordinating with facilities management to address any issues promptly and efficiently.

Develop and enforce safety protocols to protect the well-being of all participants.

Create and manage a budget for the athletic department, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources for programs, events, equipment, and facility maintenance.

Seek additional funding opportunities through rentals, sponsorships, grants, and alumni support to enhance the department's offerings.

Ensure full compliance with NCAA rules, policies and regulations as well as The City University of New York (CUNY) Athletics Conference.

Collaborate with the College's Title IX Officer to provide Title IX training and educational programming for student athletes, coaches and all athletic program staff.

Design and manage an intramural sports program that fosters active student participation and internal competition. Responsibilities include recruiting participants, organizing and training for game days, and promoting the program throughout the college community.

Partner with the Counseling Director, Health Services Nurse, and Director of Student Life to create and implement a comprehensive plan that integrates sports and physical education into the holistic health and wellness initiatives of the college community.

Oversee the coordination and implementation of the Academic Support Program for Athletes.

Liaise with the College's administration and various administrative offices and ad hoc committees along with the City College Alumni Varsity association and City College Alumni Association.

Serve on the Faculty/Student Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics and Board of Directors of the City College Alumni Varsity Association.

Consult and work with accident insurance policy underwriters and medical care providers regarding treatment for student-athletes.

Develop and implement a strategic plan for the athletic department, aligning with the college's mission and goals. This includes setting long-term objectives, evaluating program effectiveness, and making data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.

Foster a culture of inclusivity and sportsmanship within the athletic programs, ensuring that all students, regardless of skill level or background, have opportunities to participate and excel. Promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the department's activities and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides administrative direction and oversight for intercollegiate, intramural and recreational athletics staff, programs, facilities and activities.

Provides oversight for all athletics programs, facilities, and equipment.

Ensures compliance with federal, divisional and university athletics regulations.

Administers departmental funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner.

Collaborates with other College departments on recruiting and retaining student athletes.

Collaborates with College communications professionals and the media on publicity and reporting of athletic events and results.

Manages full- and part-time athletics staff.

Plans, implements, and promotes intercollegiate, intramural, and recreational athletic programs including varsity sports, intramural program, a range of credit and non-credit recreational programs.

Establish and maintain appropriate policies and standards for teams and recreational groups.

Collect and analyze departmental statistics and data and prepare and distribute reports as appropriate.

Performs related duties as assigned.
