The Medtronic Energy and Component Center (MECC) in Brooklyn Center, MN designs, develops, and manufactures the energy components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses. MECC is looking to hire a Principal Systems Engineer to join a growing team designing and developing manufacturing equipment for new product and capacity expansion projects. The Principal Systems Engineer performs as a technical lead from the initial design, development, and implementation of equipment hardware, software, control, and vision systems that control and optimize our manufacturing equipment (custom-made automated, servo-mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical manufacturing systems).

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

Oversees the installation, modification, upgrade and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.

Work with Engineering, Operations, and Quality to produce conceptual mechanical designs with a strong level of understanding of Electrical and Software controls.

Generate clear and detailed Equipment and Software specifications based on Process needs.

Collaborate with external equipment vendors during the build, development, Testing, and validation of Automation equipment.

Collaborate and partner with internal stakeholders in Operations, Quality, and Engineering to ensure alignment on objectives, strategy, and goals.

Drive Testing and validation of Automation Equipment software prior to Production Release.

Study equipment performance and reliability establishing programs and solutions for increasing uptime and for equipment problems that affect the manufacturing process.

Provide technical support to the manufacturing equipment repair and process engineering organizations.

Complete equipment and tooling design, characterization, and qualifications for medium to high complexity equipment.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

Nice to Have

BS degree in Engineering or a related discipline.

Significant automation design experience.

Proficiency in PLC and HMI (Allen Bradley, Beckhoff), vision system (Cognex, Keyence) and data acquisition systems.

Experience in defining tooling requirements, die designs, and integration into mechanized and automated equipment.

Demonstrated knowledge of custom equipment design including automated, servo-mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical systems.

Experience with equipment integrator selection and partnership including design reviews and FAT/SAT.

Strong CAD/SolidWorks, drafting practices, GD&T, and tolerance analysis experience.

Significant experience with medium volume assembly and test equipment technologies, including validation protocols (IQ / OQ / PQ / MSA).

Exceptional project management and team leadership skills.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $128,000.00 - $192,000.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
