Summary:

The Montcalm County Prosecutor’s Office has an opening for an assistant prosecuting attorney. Under the daily supervision of the Prosecutor and Chief Assistant Prosecutor, the candidate will prosecute criminal cases, including vertically prosecuting cases from investigation through trial. Typical Job Duties: Interviews victims of crimes, complaints, and law enforcement officials requesting warrants; determines appropriateness and authorizes warrants as deemed necessary. Analyzes police reports, case investigation reports, laboratory reports, witness statements, and identification to authorize or deny prosecutor proceedings. Decides whether an accused is charged with a crime and/or whether charges are reduced or dropped. Advises law enforcement officials within the county on legal matters related to investigations and procedures. Prepares Search Warrants. Assists police in field investigation when necessary or requested. Handles assignments in all courts, including Circuit, District, and Juvenile Court. Prepares for trials and court proceedings by researching previous cases and applicable legislation; drafts briefs and legal memoranda in support of court arguments. Conducts criminal trials by introducing cases, picking juries, presenting opening and closing arguments, examining and cross-examining witnesses, presenting evidence, and arguing motions. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements: Graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Michigan. Member in good standing with the Michigan State Bar.
