Class Title: Assistant Prosecuting Attorney GENERAL DUTIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing police reports; authorizing or declining criminal charges; conducting pre-trial matters in criminal cases; reviewing search warrants; and drafting briefs and motions. Caseload may include juvenile delinquency cases, abuse and neglect matters, misdemeanors, and felony cases. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the overall supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney and day-to-day supervision of the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of the Antrim County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment. Engages in legal research, drafts legal briefs, prepares and answers motions, and interviews witnesses in preparation for court appearances. Responsibilities include processing complaints from various police agencies and prosecuting all phases of probate, misdemeanor, and felony matters, including motions, hearings, jury trials, and appeals in Circuit Court. Employees work as part of a team and are responsible for ensuring that the team meets its objectives. The caseload may include juvenile delinquency cases, abuse and neglect matters, misdemeanors, and felony cases. “On call” to police officers and court at the direction of the Chief Assistant or Prosecuting Attorney. The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney must complete all other duties as assigned. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience Juris Doctorate Degree Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan. Prosecutor by Karpel, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures Skill in compiling and evaluating complex data and formulating position and arguments Skill in oral presentation, examination, and cross-examination Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and maintain confidentiality Ability to effectively meet, coordinate, and deal with multiple agencies and individuals Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to handle stressful situations.
