Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center
is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty-five (55)-bed hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty-four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Senior Accountant prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information. The Senior Accountant ensures the fiscal data accuracy and the integrity of accounting information by verifying, reconciling transactions and balancing to subsidiary accounts, and resolving discrepancies. He or she also provides mentorship support to Finance Department's Junior-level accounting staff, as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense month-end closing entries.Evaluate and monitor the completeness of all the month-end closing entries in the Checklist for Month Ending Journal Entries to ensure that all the necessary journal entries are accurately prepared and entered to the accounting system by the scheduled due dates.Review and update the Checklist for Month Ending Journal Entries with Controller as needed.Ensure that the supporting documentations for all the journal entries are sufficient for the traceability for the future audits and the compliance with the accounting rules and government regulations.Examine the balances of Assets and Liability accounts and maintain updating the Audit Schedules of the Accounts every month.Perform the monthly bank accounts reconciliations as needed and scheduled by Controller.Ensure that the monthly cost allocations are accurately done as required by the accounting rules and regulations.Prepare ad hoc reports by collecting and analyzing fiscal information as required by Controller.Reconcile the Company credit card statements.Responsible for filing of quarterly sales/use tax return and OSHPD cost report.Responsible for filing of annual LA County Welfare Exemption (property taxes).Assist with filing of annual DMH/Medicare cost report, as needed.Serve as a backup for the Purchasing Clerk or the Payroll administrator as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATESBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Minimum 3 years of experience in general accounting (Behavioral Health/Hospital experience preferred).Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.Excellent organizational skills.Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement principles.Experience in government contract compliance, especially Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and California's Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD).Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Office and accounting systems. Microsoft Dynamics, Blackbaud Financial Edge, and financial reporting software skills are highly desirable.
REQUIREMENTSMust pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.Valid California Driver's license.TB clearance.Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.Fire and Safety Training*.
* Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
**Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by onboarding. Staff need to be certified at the commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
