The City Attorney’s Office has a unique opportunity for an attorney in their Precinct Liaison Program, addressing public safety and neighborhood livability issues through proactive community-oriented problem-solving.The four liaison attorneys work out of the five Seattle Police Precincts. These attorneys work in partnership with the Seattle Police Department, Mayor’s Office, City Council, City Departments, King County Prosecutor’s office, community groups, and government authorities to solve neighborhood problems, improve public safety, and enhance the quality of life of community members. The current opening is for a Liaison Attorney who will work out of the South and Southwest Precincts.In this position you will be:Problem-solving chronic public safety challenges using a variety of criminal and civil enforcement tools.Coordinating regulatory activities conducted by the City and other government authorities in relation to public safety challenges associated with nightlife businesses, nuisance properties, alcohol impact areas, special events, and street use.Coordinating enforcement priorities between the precinct commander and Seattle City Attorney’s Office.Providing legal advice and training to SPD and other government departments.Meeting regularly with community groups to address public safety problems and concerns specific to each neighborhood.Working with SPD and other City departments to provide solutions and assist with implementation as needed.The successful candidate will have:Excellent research, writing, communication and interpersonal skills.Experience working as a prosecutor or advising law enforcement officers and agencies.Familiarity with civil regulatory work.Ability to work cooperatively with individuals who have differing interests.Ability to take initiative, think strategically, and work independently on a variety of tasks simultaneously.Prior experience working with SPD and/or the Seattle City Attorney’s Office is preferred but not required.This position requires membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association. Candidates who are current members in other states and can obtain membership in Washington within 6 months will be considered.Work is likely to include periodic evening and weekend events, depending on community meeting schedules and other issues as they arise, including covering at the Emergency Operations Center for certain civil emergencies and planned events. Regular check-ins and meetings with the City Attorney’s Office management will take place in Columbia Tower. Office time downtown may also be required.Application Process

– Salaries of Assistant City Attorneys in the Civil Division of the Seattle City Attorney's Office are based on years of relevant legal experience. For example, the 2024 annual salary is $101,766 for someone with up to one year of experience, $140,782 for someone with ten years of experience, and $158,861 for someone with at least 20 years of experience. Salaries are not subject to negotiation.The City of Seattle offers a comprehensive benefits package including vacation, 12 official holidays and 2 floating holidays, sick, and paid parental leave as well as medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance for employees. City Attorney’s Office employees also have the opportunity to participate in a defined benefits retirement program.Workplace Environment
– The Seattle City Attorney’s Office has implemented an Alternative Work Arrangements Policy. Employees will have the option to work a hybrid schedule (2 days in the office, 3 days remote). This is subject to change as circumstances and business needs dictate.Background Check Requirements
