Job Description SUMMARY : Reporting to the Dean of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University (BCMSU), the Associate Dean for Bloomfield College of Montclair State University serves as the academic administrative officer for BCMSU. The Associate Dean supports the college’s mission and vision centered on future-focused academic programming, teaching excellence, community-engaged scholarship and research, and community-based and professional service. The Associate Dean supports the Dean in academic programs that align with the University’s strategic plan and the respective programs affiliated with Montclair. The Associate Dean also coordinates the activities of support staff which currently include the Assistant Dean, program academic leaders, and administrative staff and collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators on academic activities, initiatives, and programs, including curriculum and instruction matters as well as curricular innovations. The Associate Dean is an efficient and organized academic professional who works across a variety of disciplines, to advance the mission and vision of Bloomfield and Montclair, and provide leadership that supports innovations, and maintains a high quality and recognized educational model. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Assist the Dean in the development, implementation, and growth of new academic programs and courses and in the review, assessment and evaluation of academic programs; facilitate and track the processing of curriculum development and innovation proposals. Engage in collaboration and cross-unit programming; review and resolve curricular and programmatic issues across colleges. Ensure academic program alignment with the institutional and college strategic plans. Work with faculty and staff from program areas to promote the development of alternative delivery formats (e.g., off-campus, online, hybrid, and low-residency) courses and programs. Manage course offerings, course and program enrollments with student success professional, program academic leaders, and enrollment management professionals. Review course schedules and evaluate for efficiency (approvals, reviewing faculty load, coordinating with PALs to strategically determine course needs including number of sections, sequencing, modality). Support the Dean in the preparation, coordination, review and evaluation of accreditation reports, ensuring compliance with established standards. Address student academic concerns directly related to the classroom experience. Implement, assess, and evaluate internal (College) processes for student academic grievances. Address student academic integrity issues and implements student discipline. Assist the Dean in recruitment, hiring, orientation, development and mentoring of faculty; support efforts in faculty recruitment and retention aligned with diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives. Assist program academic leads (PALs) by providing support with issues connected to teaching assignments and evaluation of instruction; engage with PALs on faculty productivity assessment. Provide support for promotion and tenure, reappointment and structured reviews. Provide support for faculty evaluation. In collaboration with the Office of Faculty Excellence, lead faculty professional development for BCMSU faculty; coordinate writing groups and manuscript/publication support activities. Responsible for faculty research support and enhancement toward faculty success. Explore and develop interdisciplinary research opportunities. Encourage research collaboration across units, including developing grant proposals. Coordinate with the Office of Research at Montclair State University toward building relationships with funding agencies and identifying funding opportunities for Bloomfield College. Assist the Dean in the development, implementation, assessment and evaluation of College strategic plans and action plans. Perform other duties as assigned. Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time. QUALIFICATIONS : REQUIRED : Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in any discipline. Minimum five years of progressive leadership experience within a higher education institution. Record of distinguished academic achievement (including tenure) appropriate for appointment at the rank of associate professor. Demonstrated commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching/learning, scholarship/research, and community engagement. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences, both orally and in writing. PREFERRED : Collaborative leadership style and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrative colleagues; commitment to a shared-governance decision-making model. Success in mentoring faculty and staff, including promoting faculty research and scholarship and advocating for associated resources and support. Experience in strategic faculty recruitment and retention initiatives, particularly promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience with new program development and other academic innovations. Proven experience in assessing and enhancing academic programs through data-driven decision-making. Familiarity with innovative instructional formats, including online, hybrid, and alternative delivery methods. Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
