Job Description
SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, the Associate Dean for Research and Partnerships provides leadership in advancing a culture of research and innovation and is responsible for the strategy and implementation of expanding the College’s sponsored (grant and contract) research program. The Associate Dean strategically collaborates with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to expand student participation in research. This position also supports community-based research projects through internal and external partnerships. The Associate Dean supports the growth of the College’s graduate programs and interdisciplinary degrees through a range of initiatives aimed at improving research impact and funding acquisition.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Develops research area priorities and strategies to elevate research activity and gain national recognition. Works to identify new funding sources and enhance the competitiveness of grant applications from the College. Identifies connections between internal and external stakeholders to build strategies that will increase research that serves our community and state. Coordinates new faculty hires and other research staff to support and build research areas of success. Creates new programs that provide scholarships and fellowships for students, mentorship for faculty, and other incentives to increase participation in applying for research and programmatic grants. Forms cross-disciplinary teams to advance scientific discovery that addresses basic science questions and contemporary issues from novel perspectives. Leads engagement and manages agreement processes to enable internal and external stakeholders to partner in research projects. Organizes resources and programs to develop research plans, project management, laboratory skills, and reporting outcomes for tenure-track faculty. Creates professional development and support for faculty interested in restarting or pivoting into new research programs. Develops and improves the infrastructure to prove the essential resources and services needed to increase research activities. Cultivates and expands partnerships with corporate and public organizations to provide research opportunities, internships, and support for capstone and dissertation projects including subject matter expertise. Leads the development of memoranda of understanding (MoUs). Performs other duties as assigned. Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time. QUALIFICATIONS : REQUIRED : Doctoral degree from an accredited institution. Six years of relevant full-time teaching and research experience at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Five years of experience in higher education administration, academic program management, and development of interdisciplinary and novel programs. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of constituents within and external to the university. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences, both orally and in writing. Ability to lead teams, communicate with multiple and diverse audiences and individuals, and complete tasks in a complex organizational environment. Demonstrated experience and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ability to inspire others to high levels of performance and foster collaboration and trust. PREFERRED : Doctoral degree from an accredited university in a STEM discipline aligned with the College’s existing departments. Experience mentoring development of research centers or institutes. Experience in developing research enhancement programs for faculty to increase research productivity and success. Experience developing partnerships with organizations external to the university that fund research projects and programs, collaborate to develop and offer joint degrees and programs, and provide research resources to faculty and students.
