Job Description Summary: The Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine department strives to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics with a goal to better understand human disease. This Research Scientist position is responsible for planning, conducting and supervising research at a high level, by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting by developing tools and technologies to aid in our studies of histone deacetylases. This role will plan independent research, analyze and interpret data, publish results, represent the university at conferences and meetings, develop new theories and methodologies, and lead and direct the work of lower level research staff, while transferring technical expertise. They will participate in weekly lab meetings, bi-weekly research/publication meetings, collaborator meetings, and present and discuss the research progress with the PI. This position must be able to work independently, meet deadlines, write monthly progress reports, and present the progress reports to key stakeholders. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a Master’s degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in data analysis and statistical techniques, including experience with software such as R, Python, or MATLAB. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with experimental design and execution, including the ability to plan and conduct experiments, troubleshoot issues, and adapt protocols as needed to achieve research objectives.
