What would the job be like?

Apply food science knowledge to create or modify formulas for dietary supplements that meet label claims in accordance to 21 CFR 111; and that are appealing to consumers in appearance, flavor, and effect. Plan, direct, or coordinate the work activities and resources necessary to manufacture and package dietary supplements.

Job Responsibilities -

to ensure the quality and safety of the product will include, but not be limited to:

Evaluate the structure and composition of supplements and the changes they undergo in storage and processing to assist in the development of quality assurance programs for such operations.

Stay up-to-date on new regulations and current events regarding food science by reviewing scientific literature, peer reviews and seminars.

Study methods to improve aspects of foods, such as chemical composition, flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, and convenience.

Test new products for flavor, texture, color, nutritional content, cost containment, and adherence to government and industry standards.

Develop or improve production processes and specifications.

Confer with process engineers, plant operators, flavor experts, and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems in product development.

Help troubleshoot and resolve problems or issues with products in production.

Help identify potential formulation or mechanical issues in production.

Identify worn or damaged tooling in production.

Train production staff on correcting/reworking tooling issues.

Correct formulation issues as they arise on the production floor using proper cGMP documentation policies.

Demonstrate products to clients.

Develop new food and nutritional items for clients based on current market trends and/or consumer feedback.

Create Manufacturing Documents like Batch records, MMR’s and BOM’s and ensure accuracy for manufacturing.

Work with the Quality department to resolve any Deviations or Corrective Actions investigations.

Search for substitutes for higher quality, more stable, or more cost-effective ingredients.

Interview, select, hire, train, motivate, evaluate, resolve personnel grievances, or recommend transfers, discharges, or disciplinary measures.

Requisition materials, supplies, equipment or repair services.

Knowledge and Skills:

Skilled in monitoring, troubleshooting, critical thinking, process control, time management, following through, serving customers, active listening and motivating others.

Demonstrate leadership, attention to detail, orientation to quality, deductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, problem solving, and skilled at decision making.

Knowledge of food production processing, chemistry, biology, cGMP’s, human resources, and safety of personnel.

Knowledge of the Encapsulation and Tableting machinery, troubleshooting, and operations in a cGMP environment.
