The Director of Early Childhood Education reports to the Executive Director of Youth Empowerment and is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Children's Learning Center. The Director will ensure that the center provides a high-quality early childhood education experience that aligns with NAEYC and NYS OCFS regulations, while also fostering an anti-bias learning environment in line with the YWCA's mission.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership, Staff Management, & Organizational Strategy

Recruit, train, and retain qualified staff. Handle staff scheduling, performance reviews, and other personnel-related matters.

Manage the center's finances effectively, ensuring compliance with budgetary guidelines and record-keeping requirements.

Encourage and support professional development opportunities for staff, including overseeing the Teaching Fellowship program.

Establish positive working relationships with corporate office, staff, parents, children, state licensing authorities, vendors, and community members.

Collaborate with industry partners and consultants to ensure that the center's curriculum aligns with best practices in early childhood education and fosters an anti-bias learning environment.

Program Oversight and Evaluation

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the center, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Continuously monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided at the center, ensuring that it meets or exceeds industry standards.

Conduct tours for prospective parents, enroll new families, and develop and execute a local marketing plan to drive enrollment and maintain desired capacity.

Compliance & Risk Management:

Prioritize the safety and security of children and staff, ensuring that the center adheres to all safety protocols and OCFS regulations.

Develop and deliver compliance training programs to CLC staff and other YWCA staff as appropriate.

Conduct regular audits and risk assessments.

Qualifications

Essential Experience:

Master's Degree in early childhood education (or a related field with 30 credits) and has State Certification. OR Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education,

and

a State certification in Early Childhood Education,

and

is enrolled in a master's program related to Early Childhood Education.

Minimum of two (2) years of Lead or Head Teacher experience in a program for children under 6 years of age.

Minimum of two (2) years of Early Childhood Administration. Preferred experience as a Director.

Minimum of two (2) years of center administrative and supervisory experience in a high-quality program required, experience working in a NAEYC-accredited and OCFS regulated center as a Director is strongly preferred.

Licensing and/or Certifications:

None

Key Attributes:

Must be familiar with childcare licensing and NAEYC requirements.

Experience with executing Office of Child and Families (OCFS) regulations.

Knowledge of principles and practices related to Early Childhood education and socio-emotional growth.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, and working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.

Experienced with Child Care Management software (i.e. Brightwheel, Procare, Lillio)

Knowledge of Windows-based computer applications and database management.

Bi-lingual English and Spanish is preferred.

Hold a valid NYS driver’s license.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff at all levels, including program directors, finance, and other YWCA Program Directors.

Knowledge of relevant compliance regulations and best practices for childcare centers in non-profit organizations.

Confident and poised public speaker with facilitation skills to conduct group meetings, training, focus group discussions, and individual interviews.

Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively lead in changing environments, exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving and sound decision making.

Proven ability to work with a diverse workforce and community leaders.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, pool mechanical systems, fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee constantly is exposed to wet and dry conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

$85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
