Front-end WordPress Developer
is responsible for the development of University-wide front-end logic that defines the behavior of the visual elements of Georgetown's websites and applications. They will work with other front-end and back-end web developers to build and maintain themes and functionality for an enterprise WordPress content management system used by hundreds of websites. This position is expected to have operational and functional knowledge of all aspects of front-end web code, including its interactions with the back-end systems, and to take the lead in developing standards-compliant, accessible, robust, and reusable website code that can be used for a wide variety of content needs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Develop and maintain front-end display code for Georgetown websites.Develop and maintain WordPress functionality, including but not limited to blocks, themes, and post editor customizations.Review code and cross-train with other developers.Provide technical support and documentation.Contribute to development workflow and deployment processes.Rapidly adapt to changing business requirements and efficiently acquire and utilize new skills in response to such change.Work within and across teams to support the acquisition of new skills and areas of expertise, training and mentoring junior technical contributors and vendors.Work InteractionsThis position reports to the Director of IT and Web Services. The incumbent may serve as a member of one or more project teams, with additional reporting lines to those project's managers. They will work collaboratively with other UIS staff, interact extensively with the user community, including all levels of administrative staff, faculty and students, and may also work with external resources at various levels. This position has no direct reports.Requirements and QualificationsBachelor's degree; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Technology, or Design preferred.5+ years of relevant experience in maintenance and design of relevant enterprise systems.Accuracy and attention to detail with demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.Ability to build and use effective working relationships within own department and across functional and geographic reporting lines.Ability to lead the research, design, development, and documentation of large complex projects/assignments, with little guidance from the manager.Self-starter and fast learner with good work ethics.Experience with front-end JavaScript libraries like ReactJS and WP-CLI custom command development preferred.Proficiency in working with WordPress APIs, with a strong preference in experience with the Gutenberg API preferred.Technical Qualifications or Specialized CertificationsStrong understanding of semantic and accessible HTML, including some experience with front-end templating languages, such as Twig.Proficiency in CSS, encompassing a deep understanding of CSS internals and of responsive and intrinsic design principles.Experience with preprocessors and frameworks like Sass.Strong experience writing JavaScript for interactive website elements.Proficiency in creating accessible and responsive WordPress themes.Comfortable with git-based development and deployment workflow.Basic comfort with PHP programming language.Work Mode DesignationThis position has been designated as
