Description

As the backend technologies subject matter expert (SME) on our first project, you’ll be working closely with the team to integrate and maintain the backend technologies necessary to support the game’s cross-platform and multiplayer features. You will help the business, design, and engineering teams understand what’s possible in the backend technology domain under resource and technical constraints, and provide feature, system, and tools implementations that balance speed and robustness. When not focused on backend specific game features, you’ll use your Unreal Engine skills and C++ knowledge to support various gameplay and systems engineering efforts. You’ll be in a prime position to contribute creatively as a member of a small team iterating rapidly. Longer term, you’ll also help the team establish technical standards and direction as well as ensure feature and system performance, stability, and maintainability. Responsibilities

Integrate and maintain backend technologies Develop backend dependent game features and systems Serve as the team’s backend technologies SME Interface with external backend technology partners Identify and prioritize improvements to backend related tooling and workflows Contribute to technical direction and quality standards across the codebase Support non-engineering disciplines in understanding what’s possible and the cost/benefit associated with various technical solutions Regularly provide collaborative feedback focused on achieving a top-quality player experience Provide gameplay and systems engineering support when not focused on backend related feature or systems development Qualifications

Required Skills Advanced C++ skills 6+ years of gameplay engineering experience in the game development industry 3+ years of engineering experience working with networked multiplayer game systems Experience working with game backend technologies such as: Java, REST APIs, gRPC, data persistence, matchmaking, dedicated server hosting, or message queues Strong knowledge of common game development architectural patterns Comfortable working in large code bases Strong debugging skills Experience collaborating cross-discipline on gameplay features and systems A desire to create great player experiences An understanding that we can only succeed as a cohesive team and supporting each other is fundamental to that success. Desired Skills Experience using Unreal Engine, especially implementing multiplayer gameplay features Experience with online services such as Steamworks, Xbox/Playstation services, Accelbyte, Pragma, or Playfab Full cycle game development experience (prototype, pre-production, production, release) Experience working on teams that use the Agile development methodology Benefits
