The Director of Business Development, Offshore Wind, will lead and grow the team located in the United States. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic advisor with a robust background in the offshore wind industry who can identify and deliver on new business opportunities while developing strong customer relationships. This role is for a strategic leader who thrives in planning and executing innovation and can manage a diverse team that delivers offshore wind development services with a wide range of complexity.

Location:

This role is located in Houston, Texas at our corporate headquarters. However, other locations may be considered for qualified candidates meeting the requirements of the role.

What You Will Do:

Lead Offshore Wind business activities in North America by identifying opportunities in the local market, leveraging and nurturing current relationships and growing new relationships with key Customers, and providing critical market intelligence to help develop services according to the local industry needs to achieve business growth and profitability goals.

Utilize an excellent network of broad and diverse contacts within the North American offshore wind energy industry is a must, and ability to expand specific contacts within offshore wind developers, OEM turbine manufacturers, and EPC companies and key government agencies such as BOEM.

Lead the strategy and positioning for multidisciplinary proposal efforts and RFP responses, which may require input from various technical teams.

Influence and collaborate with other relevant internal teams to provide Customers with new and innovative services to support the growing US market, including the Maritime Service Line, partners with Marine Warranty Survey, Renewables Certification team, Project Certification and Vessel Classification in the OSW supply chain.

Communicate ABS’s services and thought leadership at industry events, conferences, and Customer meetings, as well as local and global internal R&D projects related to ABS’s offshore wind business.

Work closely with ABS’s Marketing and Communications team to provide content and strategy regarding ABS’ growing and evolving offshore wind service offerings and industry-supporting discoveries.

Utilize technical knowledge to be customer-facing and expand opportunities that allow cross-disciplinary departments to deliver various offshore wind services during the different phases of a project lifecycle.

Leverage communication skills to enhance overall business operations to best serve the North American offshore wind industry.

What You Will Need:

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to offshore wind success, including engineering, business, policy, or other relevant field. Master level degree or higher welcomed.

Seeking 8+ years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Team Player mindset – willing to lead and support depending on task and competency base and nature of work.

Thorough understanding of U.S. energy and climate policy, including the evolution of the U.S. offshore wind market.

Demonstrate existing relationships with key offshore wind federal stakeholders, including DOE, DOI- BOEM, BSEE, DOD, and DHS Coast Guard.

The ability to comfortably explain complicated analysis methodologies or results, scopes of work, budget or contracting terms, and other relevant offshore wind technical topics to a wide range of audiences is essential.

Strong understanding of offshore wind technology components, development lifecycle, procurement processes and project costs, and relevant stakeholders and industry decision-makers.

Possess a thorough understanding of U.S. energy and climate policy, including the evolution of the U.S. offshore wind market.

Exercise solid interpersonal skills and exude confidence and comfort working with elected and appointed officials.

Possess strong business acumen and willingness to learn about risk and tax concepts.

Be able to manage complicated and technical competing priorities and projects.

Be able to utilize and leverage technology to perform responsibilities successfully.

Maintain a high level of personal integrity and professionalism.

Exercise strong writing, research, and presentation skills.

Reporting Relationships:

Will report directly to the Vice President, Head of Global Offshore Wind.
