GRObio has an inclusive work environment that celebrates diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and approaches to science and business.The RoleWe are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Director of Chemistry to lead the synthesis of novel compounds and conjugation of those compounds to proteins to generate novel therapeutics. This role will involve hands-on leadership in the design, synthesis, and characterization of complex conjugates, as well as managing a team of scientists to support the company’s research and development goals.This is a full-time role with a minimum of 3 days a week onsite.Key Responsibilities
Lead the strategic design and execution of new synthetic and conjugation chemistry strategies for the development of novel therapeutic candidates.Oversee the synthesis, purification, and characterization of conjugates, including small molecule-protein conjugates, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and other bioconjugates.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of synthetic chemistry strategies with overall program goals.Provide technical leadership in the development and optimization of scalable synthetic chemistry and conjugation processes for preclinical and clinical candidates.Manage and mentor a team of chemists, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific excellence.Support chemistry activities by developing robust, reproducible methods and ensuring successful technology transfer to external partners.Interface with external chemistry and protein CMOs (contract manufacturing organizations) to collaborate and ensure alignment of scaled-up conjugates with internal activities.Contribute to the preparation of regulatory submissions by providing relevant data and documentation related to conjugation chemistry.Stay current with advancements in synthetic chemistry and conjugation technologies and implement new techniques to enhance the company’s capabilities in this area.Present scientific findings to internal teams and external stakeholders, including academic and industry collaborators.Qualifications & Requirements
PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field, with significant experience in synthetic chemistry and/or protein conjugation.8-12 years of industry experience in click conjugation and/or synthetic chemistry, with a proven track record of developing therapeutic conjugates.Hands-on experience with conjugation technologies, including small molecule conjugates, ADCs, and other biologic-conjugation platforms with a strong understanding of chemical biology principles.Hands-on experience purifying conjugates at various scales (mg to g) using SEC, HIC, and TFF.Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, protein/peptide chemistry, and analytical techniques used in the characterization of conjugates. Knowledge of glycan synthesis is a plus.Experience in leading and mentoring teams, with strong communication and organizational skills.Familiarity with CMC and regulatory requirements related to conjugation chemistry for therapeutic development.Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex scientific information to both internal and external stakeholders.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to adjust to changing project needs and timelines.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.A passion for innovation and a commitment to advancing scientific research.
