This individual should be a self-motivated and high-judgment PR professional who will be responsible for managing issues and media relations that have the potential to impact customer trust.
In this role, the individual will intake press inquiries, work with business partners on investigations, and make recommendations on the communications approach for escalations related to topics such as brand protection, product safety, trustworthy reviews, and impersonation scams. In addition to reactive issues management, this specialist will coordinate with peers and partner teams to understand areas where Amazon can proactively amplify key Stores narratives with media to reaffirm trust in the Amazon shopping experience.
This position is ideal for someone who excels in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. The individual must be able to think quickly, manage multiple ongoing issues on parallel paths, understand technical and nuanced topic areas, have exceptional writing skills, and deliver communications strategy concisely with a variety of stakeholders.
This role can be located in Seattle, WA or the Washington, D.C. area.Key job responsibilities
Manage day-to-day reactive media inquiries, diving deep with colleagues on internal data, and working directly with reporters to implement approved strategies.Ability to formulate a clear point of view, developing concise and well-written narrative recommendations.Monitor, assess, escalate, and resolve a variety of reactive issues occurring simultaneously with excellent judgement.Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets/reporters to discuss and manage challenging stories, correct inaccuracies, and establish a connection point for future story development.Develop reactive messaging, FAQs, and forward-looking scenario plans for emerging issues.Manage feedback and edits quickly and concisely.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience.Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.Understanding of, and experience with, issues management strategy.Experience with media relations.Ability to drive progress and earn trust while working across multiple teams.Track record of delivering results in ambiguous, evolving environments.Solid judgment, particularly in narrow time frames.Ability to multitask and prioritize.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
