The Director of Technology reports to the Head of School.The Director of Technology facilitates and manages the information technology services and initiatives for The Peddie School. They promote the use of administrative and academic technology as both a strategic resource and an operational tool; ensure the school is educated about the cultural, technical and fiscal issues related to the use of information technology; work with others to ensure the development, implementation, and funding of long-range strategic technology plans; and direct an organization whose mission is to provide technology education, services, and support to the entire community.
Essential Functions:
Manage the Technology Department, including Service and Support, Network Technology Services, and Information Systems.Develop and manage a comprehensive technology budget that supports the school’s goals, is consistent with current and future Tech Department infrastructure, and considers anticipated industry trends. Obtain “best value” for budget.Oversee technology utilization and acquisition to support the school's mission and to promote institutional aims.Stay current with industry changes and developments.Work with others to plan, support, and direct the school’s information technology training and education programs for all personnel (faculty and staff) to ensure effective and efficient use of the school’s technology resources.Implement and support the school's short- and long-term information technology plans, incorporating and balancing the instructional and administrative system needs.Provide strategic and long-range planning and program development, while monitoring the success and effectiveness of ongoing services, user applications and programs in the various areas of the school – operational, academic, and residential.Support and coordinate the technology needs of the school’s administrative offices and academic programs.Support students’ academic computing needs.Search consistently for opportunities to utilize information technology to streamline business operations, reduce administrative expenses, and to improve teaching and learning.Plan and manage the school's telecommunications services and the integration into the school’s network.Maintain the school's information technology resources inventory.Maintain, audit, and continuously improve security management for the school's computer systems and networks, including software, hardware, telecommunications, and implement regular vulnerability testing of Peddie’s tech infrastructure.Ensure that day to day services are maintained at a consistent and effective level (including under adverse circumstances).Manage Tech Department Personnel: a) Hire, develop, and evaluate assigned staff b) Support Tech Department staff in the daily operation of the department c) Support the professional development for members of the Tech Department staff.Provide periodic updates about technology related initiatives, opportunities and risks to the board of trustees.Work with school leadership to explore ways to enhance departmental capacity to address emerging and important needs through additional skills, training and tools.Secondary Duties:
Serves on the Curriculum Committee and Planning Team.Represent Peddie’s IT program and initiatives to other independent schools, and regional and national organizations.Participate and provide leadership in national and regional technology organizations representing Peddie as a leader in the thoughtful and responsible management of a campus information technology environment.Works with other departments to identify potential efficiencies through the use of technology.Writes policy that relates to technology and the School.Skills:
Extensive knowledge of software development life cycle.Strong understanding of IT infrastructure and security.Experience and leadership in:

Founded in 1864, The Peddie School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school of 535 students, grades 9 through post-graduate. It is primarily a boarding school, with over 60 percent of students and 90 percent of the faculty living on campus.
