OVERVIEW
Limestone University invites applications for the position of Chief of Campus Safety. The Chief of Campus Safety provides strategic and operational leadership for the university’s safety and security operations and emergency preparedness at Limestone University’s in Gaffney, SC. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and CFO, the Chief is responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and direction of the university’s safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs, and provides technical guidance, training, and inspection/risk analysis services to staff and students to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local agency’s standards and regulations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, examines, analyzes, evaluates, and supervises campus safety operations.
Continuously monitors and improves campus safety, security, and technology (mass notification system, access controls, cameras, etc.).
Evaluates current procedures, practices, and policies for campus security and makes appropriate adjustments to improve the safety of the campus.
Provides campus safety support during the regular work week, including locking/unlocking facilities, monitoring parking, etc.
Coordinates activities within the security area, including the scheduling of campus safety personnel and assigning/delegating responsibilities.
Develops preventative training programs, both live and online, that prepare the campus to respond to critical situations.
Specifically trains faculty and staff on how to respond to emergency situations, and prepares a curricular approach to training, with certificates of completion, for all employees related to weather, medical, violence, bomb threat, active shooter, and other emergencies.
Assists in preparation of emergency management and contingency planning as well as fire assessment and risk assessment.
Oversees audits of security related issues and recommendations for improving the safety of the campus and its facilities including lighting, trip and fall evaluations, ADA compliance, doors, and lock improvements, etc.
Conducts, supervises, and prepares reports related to internal non-criminal investigations on the campus.
Provides SLED training (or access to SLED training) for security personnel as well as LU-specific orientation and training for all campus safety officers.
Coordinates the recruitment, selection, and supervision of all campus safety personnel.
Manages the campus safety budget and makes recommendations regarding budget preparation.
Serves as the liaison with the Gaffney Police Department and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department for all campus safety issues.
Serves as the Campus Fire Safety officer and the liaison with the Local Fire Department.
Prepares the annual campus safety (Clery) report and ensures that the University complies with federal, state, and local legal regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree is preferred; a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, security, emergency management, or a closely related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Five to seven years of leadership experience in security or law enforcement.
Strong leadership, strategic, and motivational capabilities.
Ability to become SLED-certified for security.
Demonstrated ability to make well-informed decisions, solve problems, and coordinate a variety of activities and tasks. Must be able to exercise independent judgment in the course of carrying out responsibilities.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to develop efficient and effective systems for the implementation of policies and procedures.
Demonstrated high integrity and ethical conduct, and the ability to manage confidential issues and build effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in the performance of duties.
Ability to manage emotions and maintain composure in stressful situations.
Familiarity with integrated database and statistical management systems, including reporting, and a high comfort level with web-based, mobile and PC applications, including but not limited to, the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
