Job Summary

Jefferson Community & Technical College invites applications for the position of Chief of Campus Safety and Security (official title is Manager I Safety). The Chief of Campus Safety and Security will provide oversight and management of security officers and campus safety operations at all six campus locations to maintain a safe and secure campus for all students, faculty, staff and visitors to Jefferson Community and Technical College.

Job Duties:

Provides leadership, direction and oversight of the security and protection of campus property and facilities through a team of Campus Safety Officers.

Campus crisis management using conflict resolution practices with periodic intervention from outside agencies and/or first responders. These situations include but are not limited to: fire, bomb threats, weather emergencies, natural disasters, disruptive students, visitors, transient populations, etc.

Serves as a liaison and works with local law enforcement and emergency services agencies.

Experience in the development, implementation and management of Safety & Health programs including Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical Hygiene and Hazard Communication Plans.

Assesses existing disaster plans and develops a response and recovery plan. Evaluates disaster control methods and procedures; identifies risk exposures relative to life safety and implements corrective action plans.

Identifies and develops safety-training programs for faculty, staff, and students; coordinates emergency preparedness drills (i.e. tornado, earthquake, bomb threats, fire, and workplace violence/intruder, chemical spills, etc.)

Completes and/or reviews safety reports including Annual Security Report, Clery Campus Crime Report, OSHA Report of Injuries, Crisis Management Plan and other safety-related reports as needed.

Works with IT to coordinate the “SNAP” emergency notification system and performs regular drill sequences with the Crisis Management Team (CMT). Available for emergency calls and immediate action and/or deployment of SNAP notifications.

Tracks daily logs and criminal incidents for each campus site and updates the Incident Reports website as incidents occur.

Responsible for parking administration.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree (related field), and three years related experience or equivalent. Preference extended to candidates with a Bachelors’ degree and experience in law enforcement leadership and/or management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory experience preferred and proficient with Microsoft office. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Candidates should also have experience and sensitivity working with personnel from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
