The Search and Conversational Shopping Design team is responsible for customer experiences that make it easier and more enjoyable for new and experienced Amazon shoppers to gather inspiration, find the right products within Amazon’s vast selection, and evaluate products for purchase with ease.

We seek a Principal Conversation Experience Designer to help us refine and create new features for Rufus, our new AI shopping assistant.

To thrive in this role, you must be a pioneer with an inventor’s spirit and a strong understanding of language (inputs and outputs) and the written word who is passionate about technology and innovation. You are able to work fast, handle several projects, and quickly discern the needs of a brand as it relates to voice and tone. You know how to present ideas professionally through a strategic and creative lens. You must be comfortable working with project briefs and managing stakeholder inputs, functional requirements, and timelines. You have a solid understanding of conversation design fundamentals combined with a deep understanding of how to collaborate with UX designers, researchers, product management, engineering, data science, and operational teams as you go from early-stage product concepts to launches of new features and experiences.

Minimum Requirements:

10+ years of design experienceHave an available online portfolioExperience with best practices for User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction DesignExperience in life cycle design projects from design strategy through execution

Key Job Responsibilities:

Create world-class, user-centered designs through consideration of UX research, market research, business requirements, customer feedback, and usability study findingsWork with Science and Editorial teams to help train the LLM to generate content that matches the intention of the designsDemonstrate leadership in driving design processes into the organization that help refine strategy.Translate business requirements into use cases and high-level customer experience requirementsDesign the interface and interaction flow of new featuresDevelop and maintain detailed user-interface specificationsPresent design work to the user experience team, product team, engineering team, Amazon.com leadership, and external partners for review and feedbackWork with our usability and data mining teams to assess and optimize new and existing featuresDevelop high level strategy for customers for both near and long term.Collaborate with other design team members on experiences, frameworks, process, and best practices.Experience providing and effectively communicating strategic and tactical recommendations based on data

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $147,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $244,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
