Summary
American Coatings Association (ACA) seeks a qualified candidate for an Accounting Manager position within its Finance and Accounting Department. The Finance & Accounting Manager will be an integral member of the Finance & Accounting team, managing and supervising the activities of the technical accounting, financial reporting process, and related activities. In this role, you will work closely with the Controller in all aspects of finance and accounting functions to support the operations of a large association and its subsidiaries. This position will require significant interaction with the CFO, Controller, external auditors, as well internal business and operations teams and other non-financial personnel. The position is located in Washington, DC and will report directly to ACA’s Controller.

ACA is a voluntary, nonprofit organization working to advance the needs of the paint and coatings industry and the professionals who work in it. Through advocacy of the industry and its positions on legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues at the federal, state and local levels, it acts as an effective ally ensuring that the industry is represented and fairly considered. The association focuses on advancements in science and technology through its technical conferences and journals, and offers essential business information to members through its publications, surveys, and business programs.

Responsibilities
Generate
monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and
external use in accordance with GAAP Coordinate
the activities of the accounting department to facilitate timely
accounting close Maintain
and oversee month-end close procedures, allocations, and reconciliations
for all areas of the GL including cash, investments, accounts payable,
accounts receivable, prepaids, revenue, fixed assets, and payroll Validate accuracy of sales, revenue, and payment data from related systems into ACA’s financial system, Oracle NetSuite Oversee monthly expense reporting process, ensuring adherence to Company policies and budgets Support subsidiaries with required state annual reporting including developing custom financial reports and analysis Manage
monthly budget reporting and forecasting updates Prepare
annual financial statement reconciliations, roll-forwards, and schedules
for audit and tax filing purposes Generate
detailed reports for outside departments as needed Enhance
and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the
Company that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the
organization Assess
ongoing F&A processes and tools for continuous improvement and
automation opportunities Assist
the Controller in developing and maintaining accounting principles,
practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financials
statements and reporting Assist
Management with various special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field; CPA candidate or designation preferred but not required 5+ years of general accounting and/or audit experience is preferred Experience in general ledger supervision and team leadership Practical,
results-oriented team builder with superior analytical, project
management, and problem-solving skills Highly
effective communicator (up, across, down) both written and orally who can
easily collaborate with other groups Strong computer skills in integrated financial and cloud-based applications Proficiency with NetSuite or similar financial system is preferred; familiarity with Salesforce, Planful, Cvent, Bill.com, online banking systems is a plus Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) Demonstrated
ability to convey financial performance to audiences at different levels
in the organization Knowledge and proficiency in general accounting procedures Experience in training and leading others Strong attention to detail and accuracy Good research, analysis, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment Good organizational skills Ability
to effectively manage multiple priorities and deliverables within an
entrepreneurial work setting Routinely
communicate findings and information to other team members; transparency
and knowledge sharing is expected and practiced
Location and Travel
This position is located at ACA headquarters in Washington, DC and will operate within a hybrid work environment (working both onsite and remotely). Travel only occasionally required.
Employment, Salary and Benefits
This is a full time, regular position. Salary is dependent on experience, but on estimate can range from $106,000 to $130,000. ACA provides generous benefits including 401(k) match, PTO, medical, dental, and life insurance, commuter benefits & wellness reimbursement, and professional development/training opportunities.
