Job Title: Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Domestic Violence Unit, Special VictimsSalary: $80,000 – $92,000
GENERAL SUMMARYThe Domestic Violence Unit vertically prosecutes complex, difficult, high visibility and/or specially assigned cases of intimate partner domestic violence. Under supervision, they will make judgments and exercise responsibility on many important matters concerning the Prosecutor’s Office. They will give sound legal opinions to supervisors and/or law enforcement agencies. They will assist in mentoring and training of other APAs. They must attend and/or participate in continuing legal education seminars in all areas of criminal law but specifically in the areas of the dynamics of domestic violence and lethality assessment. They must communicate effectively, professionally, and tactfully with victims, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, court personnel and defense counsels.COMPENSATION:
Compensation is commensurate with experience. Full medical benefits, as well as a retirement plan with robust time off, compensatory time, paid parental leave, etc., with an annual step increase.QUALIFICATIONS:
Juris Doctorate Degree; must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan; possess effective oral and written communication skills; highly organized and extremely motivated. You must have a minimum of 2 years of experience litigating domestic violence cases. Experience with Prosecutor by Karpel case management system, and Training in Forensic Interview Protocols is preferred.TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:Conduct independent review and analysis of warrants and cases.Prosecute complex, difficult and/or high visibility cases effectively and expeditiously.Draft and file legal pleadings, motions and responses to motionsInteract with and interview victims, witnesses, law enforcement agencies and defense counsels.Provide zealous and effective advocacy on behalf of the People of the State of Michigan.Some weekend and/or on-call duty is required.Perform other related duties as assigned.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
