The Consumer Fraud Bureau enforces the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (815 ILCS 505/1

et. seq ). The Act’s purpose, according to its preamble, is “to protect consumers and borrowers and businessmen against fraud, unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices in the conduct of any trade or commerce...” The Bureau carries out its mandate by conducting investigations and, when appropriate, filing enforcement actions in state or federal court to stop fraudulent, unfair or deceptive practices. The Bureau periodically collaborates with other government and law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and advocacy groups on public policy and other matters of law as it pertains to consumer protection. The Bureau also drafts legislation and rules, and participates in events to educate the community on emerging consumer problems and issues.Salary and Qualifications :Salaries are commensurate with the number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and start at $81,000. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Illinois at the time of application.
