The Health Care Bureau is responsible for handling a broad spectrum of health care related-consumer protection activities. Its focus is to protect Illinois residents from fraudulent or harmful health care and health insurance business practices. It engages in investigations of possible deceptive or unfair practices and, when appropriate, files enforcement actions in state or federal court. In addition to litigation, the Bureau also drafts legislation and participates in seminars and trainings to educate the community on emerging consumer problems and issues.Responsibilities:An Assistant Attorney General in the Health Care Bureau builds cases against alleged perpetrators of fraud. They investigate consumer complaints, draft pleadings, draft and respond to motions, manage mediations and settlements, participate in multi-state investigations, and represent the interests of the People of the State of Illinois in court.Qualifications:Candidates must have litigation experience. Experience in health care or health insurance-related issues is preferred. Investigative experience, experience with the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Practices Act and a demonstrated commitment to the public interest is also desired. All candidates must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time of application.
