Coastal Roots Farm is a nonprofit community farm and education center guided by Jewish values. The Farm’s mission is to cultivate healthy, connected communities by integrating sustainable agriculture, food justice, and ancient Jewish wisdom.The Farm’s impact initiatives include 1) regenerative agriculture, 2) equitable food access, 3) environmental education, and 4) Jewish life. We grow organic food in a climate-smart way, donate the majority of our harvests to those who need it most, inspire youth to be the next generation of environmental stewards, and connect people of all backgrounds to Jewish holidays, values, and traditions through farming and food.Coastal Roots Farm is located in Encinitas, CA on approximately 18 acres of land which we recognize as indigenous to the Kumeyaay and Luiseño peoples. Coastal Roots Farm was incubated by the Leichtag Foundation in 2014 and received 501(c)(3) public charity status in 2015.POSITION OVERVIEW
The Philanthropy Manager will play a critical role in expanding Coastal Roots Farm’s fundraising capacity, focusing on prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors and corporations, and planning the Farm’s fundraising events.This is a newly created role, joining the Farm’s wider Philanthropy Team including the 1) President and CEO, 2) Director of Philanthropy, Impact Strategy, and Communications, 3) Director of Grants and Impact, and 4) Grants and Impact Manager, to drive contributed revenue to the Farm.The right candidate will bring experience securing monetary gifts from individual donors and corporations and executing large-scale events. This candidate should resonate with the Farm’s mission, be extremely organized and warm, and be goal-oriented to achieve quarterly and annual revenue goals.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential philanthropy functions include:Individual donors:
Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors to make major gifts ($1,000+), and steward these relationships. Target asks include Farm Founder’s Circle Membership, Year-End Appeal, Legacy Gifts, capital projects, and more.Corporate support:
Identify, cultivate, and solicit corporate donors and prospects to make meaningful gifts and steward these relationships. Support efforts to secure event sponsorships and manage Corporate Partnership benefits. Target asks for Corporate Partnerships, event sponsorships, capital projects, and more.Stewardship:
Engage prospects, current donors, and partners with opportunities to connect to the Farm’s impact including Farm Tours, regular events, and donor gatherings.Fundraising Events:
Work closely with Marketing and Events Manager and Fundraising Team to produce fundraising events such as the upcoming 10 Year Anniversary Celebration in 2025. The Marketing and Events Manager will lead the coordination of vendors, permits, equipment rentals, venue set up, catering, and day-of logistics; The Philanthropy Manager will coordinate and implement the run of the show, promote ticket sales, and solicit sponsorships.Interdepartmental coordination:
Collaborate with the wider Philanthropy Team on fundraising strategy and relevant fundraising events, and coordinate with Marketing and Events Manager to promote Year-End Appeal and recognition of Corporate Partners.Administrative and Other Duties:Collaborate with the Administrative and Data Coordinator to process fundraising revenue (data entry, monthly audits, and reports).Lead Farm Tours and give Farm presentations as needed.Attend regular Philanthropy Team meetings, fundraising event meetings, Farm Leadership Team meetings, and Farm Team meetings as appropriate.Qualifications / Experience
Required:3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts, donor cultivation, and corporate partnerships.Proven track record of securing major gifts and managing donor relationships.Experience planning and executing large fundraising events.Familiarity with CRM software and fundraising tools (e.g. Salesforce).Highly organized with strong time management skills; ability to work independently, set priorities, and execute projects; strong interpersonal skills; highly collaborative; outstanding written and verbal communication.Preferred:Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in communications, business, nonprofit management, fundraising or related field.Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Director of Philanthropy, Impact Strategy, and Communications.Compensation
The salary range of $70,000 to $80,000 is commensurate with experience. Coastal Roots Farm offers a competitive benefits package.Typical Working Conditions
The Philanthropy Manager will work outdoors and in the office. There will be exposure to Southern California outside temperatures, chemicals used in the agricultural industry, and loud noises.Essential Physical Tasks
