Job Summary:The College of Letters and Science (L&S) is the heart of UW-Madison and home to a tremendous breadth and depth of departments and degree-granting programs in the humanities; natural, physical, and mathematical sciences; social sciences; and the computing, data, and information sciences. As the HR Manager, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by leading a dedicated team that supports the HR needs of our diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.

This role is part of an exciting new initiative as L&S implements the Administrative Transformation Program (ATP). Reporting to the L&S HR Director, you will lead a team of HR professionals responsible for delivering day-to-day HR, payroll, and benefits services to assigned units within the college. We're seeking candidates who bring a positive, proactive, and collaborative approach to problem-solving, and who thrive in a dynamic environment. This position will supervise 5-10 individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Promote collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and a strong sense of community and belonging within the HR Administrative Regional Team.

Team Management: Provide HR expertise and oversee workload management to ensure the team effectively meets the needs of assigned units and employees.

Collaborative Partnerships: Serve as a trusted point of contact and partner for department administrators, fostering productive and collaborative relationships across assigned units while maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with care.

Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, enhanced system utilization, and service excellence, ensuring compliance and responsiveness in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

15% Identifies, designs, implements, and monitors Human Resources and staff training programs consistent with strategic objectives and initiatives.

40% Directs and manages unit operational functions and/or staff.

15% Identifies, proposes, implements, and interprets employment policies and practices for stakeholders, and provides recommendations for changes.

15% Monitors programs and practices to ensure compliance with human resources laws, regulations, and institutional policies.

15% Serves as subject matter expert to support unit managers' alignment of business needs and human resources strategy.

Education:Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:Required:

Minimum 3 years relevant experience in Human Resources, payroll, or related role.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with managers, staff, and campus partners.

Demonstrated sound judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting HR policies and procedures.

Experience with improving processes, navigating change, and/or applying systems thinking to work.

Ability to apply equity, inclusion and belonging practices throughout assigned responsibilities.

Experience utilizing a Human Resource Information System (e.g. Workday, Peoplesoft, etc.).

Preferred:

Direct supervisory experience or equivalent experience leading/managing a team.

Human resources and/or payroll experience in a higher education or similar setting.

Work Type:Full Time: 100%. This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:Minimum:

$80,000 ANNUAL (12 months). Depending on Qualifications. The typical starting salary for this position is $80,000 - $103,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
