The Senior Downstream Process Development Scientist for Cytiva is responsible for accelerating discovery, development and delivery of solutions that safeguard and improve human health by collaborating closely with our customers and helping them to improve their downstream processes.
This position is part of the Fast Trak PDVS organization located in Marlborough, MA and will be on-site. At Cytiva, our vision is to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.
What you will do:
Fast Trak Senior scientists work as process development leads with the team and directly with our customers in a collaborative environment. You will be leading technical discussions with customers, developing, optimizing and performing downstream processes.
In this role, you will be acting as a project lead as well as conducting independent scientific application work on various projects with monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, recombinant proteins, AAV, oligonucleotides, etc.
Most PD work is done in process development scale, but understanding and experience of large scale biomanufacturing will ensure that scalable solutions are implemented.
The role also includes learning and delivering training courses for customers as principal instructor, in the field of downstream biomanufacturing.
You should have in-depth protein purification, resin and filtration knowledge to support and identify successful solutions for our customer’s PD and biomanufacturing processes.
Who you are:
Expertise in leading downstream technical discussions with customers, developing, optimizing and performing downstream processes, acting as a project leader as well as conducting independent scientific application work on various projects with monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, recombinant proteins, AAV, oligonucleotides, etc.
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience or MSc or PhD with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in biochemistry, biotechnology, bioprocess/biomedical engineering, biochemical/chemical engineering or related life sciences field with experience in DSP PD, scale up, tech transfer, manufacturing or equivalent.
Extensive hands-on experience and in-depth theoretical knowledge of downstream PD, chromatography techniques (HIC/IEX/SEC/MM/RP/Affinity) and resins, high throughput technologies, protein analytics, scale-up, tech transfer, and/or manufacturing, AKTA systems (Avant /Pure/Pilot 600/Flux S), UNICORN software, etc.
Strong analytical experience like Biacore, RP/SEC HPLC(UPLC) coupled with UV/PDA/MALS detectors, CE-SDS, WB, SDS-PAGE, IEF, etc.
Hands-on experience of column packing techniques/applications like flow packing, axial compression hardware, slurry calculation techniques, pressure/flow diagrams, compression/packing factors, qualification methods (Asymmetry, HETP).
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Ability to travel up to 1-2 times a year for overnight travel, within the East Coast USA.
Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 20lb.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Extensive Unicorn text method experience.
Strong experience in different Akta platforms (Akta pure/Avant/Pilot 600, Akta Ready, Akta Flux S/6).
Training and mentoring of more junior scientists and able to deliver customer trainings both theoretical and practical as well as identifying and driving update of course content as a subject matter expert.
