JOB DESCRIPTION
Hampton University is seeking to hire a dynamic and innovative individual to serve as the Executive Director of HU Online. This individual will report to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of online programs and initiatives to enhance teaching excellence and promote innovative online pedagogical practices across the University.
The Executive Director will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to support effective teaching and learning strategies, cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure that instructional practices align with the University’s mission and strategic goals.
The responsibilities associated with this role encompass the development of strategic plans, establishing new programs, and overseeing online course and degree program administration. These duties aim to ensure that the educational offerings remain responsive to students’ evolving needs and in line with the requirements of the global marketplace.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in online education, curriculum development, and digital learning technologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and implement a dynamic HU Online plan that aligns with the university’s strategic plan, mission, and academic targets.
Establish and execute robust support systems for online students to maximize retention and academic achievement.
Lead initiatives to train and support faculty in best practices for online teaching and learning.
Supervise the development and improvement of online programs and courses to ensure they meet high-quality standards and are responsive to student’s needs and industry trends.
Work with Information Technology departments to supervise the technology platforms for online learning and ensure that the technology used is up-to-date, efficient, and user-friendly.
Collaborate with the Marketing and Admissions departments to promote online programs and increase student enrollment.
Develop initiatives to increase new student enrollments and support for transfer credits.
Ensure all online programs adhere to regional and programmatic accreditation standards and state and federal regulations.
Monitor changes and updates from NC SARA, SCHEV, SACSCOC, and other relevant regulatory organizations that may impact online learning.
Monitor online students’ data, including pass rates, recruitment, retention, and graduation rates, and develop plans to remedy areas not meeting standards.
Serve as a lead prospective student liaison between admissions managers, program directors, and faculty to promote efficiency and reduce confusion in the admissions process.
Develop and manage the budget for online programs, ensuring resources are used efficiently and strategically to promote growth.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in a related field.
Five years or more of progressive leadership experience managing, growing, and launching online and nontraditional education programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in online pedagogy and learning technologies.
Proven ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams; strong leadership and decision-making capabilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
