Job Posting .DepartmentAbout the DepartmentThe Section of Genetic Medicine continues to shape the future of personalized medicine with successful research programs focused on quantitative genetic and genomic science. The Section provides valuable collaborations with investigators in the Department of Medicine who are seeking to develop new and powerful ways to identify genetic risk factors for common, complex disorders with almost immediate clinical application. The Section conducts impactful investigations focused on quantitative genetics, systems biology and genomics, bioinformatics, and computational biology.Job SummaryThe Barreiro Lab is looking for a Staff Scientist to work on the analysis and interpretation of large functional genomic datasets for research projects aimed at understanding the contribution of genetic and non-genetic factors to population variation in immune responses. The Staff Scientist is expected to plan, execute, facilitate, and advance technical/scientific research projects.ResponsibilitiesDesigns, develops, and tests processing and analytical computational pipelines (including novel empirical methods, computational, statistical methods, etc.), including fieldwork in South America.Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate.Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors scientific research manuscripts.May supervise other research staff.May present work at scientific meetings and provide peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.Involved in all aspects of the design, development, implementation, and analysis of research projects focused on population variation in immune responses.Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manages, analyzes, and makes recommendations on complex data sets for research.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Minimum requirements include a PhD in a related field.Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.Preferred QualificationsEducation and Experience:Experience in developing bioinformatic analytical pipelines.Experience with the analysis and interpretation of functional genomics and population genetic datasets.Experience with assisting in the training, a strong publication record, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence.Supervisory experience.Knowledge in functional genomics and population genomics.Knowledge in single-cell sequencing technologies such as RNASeq, ATACSeq.Knowledge in bioinformatics methods and statistical tools for the analyses of genomic data.Proficiency in scripting/programming languages (R/Python/Bash).Analytical skills, problem-solving skills, organizational skills.Verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Application DocumentsResume/CV (required)When applying, the document(s)
