The Chair will align the department's goals with the School of Medicine's strategic plan, fostering a unified and forward-looking approach to academic and research excellence. This individual will play a key role in developing an innovative strategic vision for the department, ensuring it remains at the forefront of basic science research and education. With new leadership from the Dean and a research plan emphasizing support for the basic sciences and growth of the research enterprise, this is a unique opportunity for an energetic, collaborative leader to expand both established and emerging research areas in a distinguished department.Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Chair will lead a talented team of researchers and educators, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages scientific discovery, academic excellence, and faculty development. The Chair will set and execute a strategic vision to advance the department's research portfolio and enhance its scholarly and scientific reputation. Key responsibilities include:Recruiting and retaining high-caliber faculty,Mentoring faculty to support their professional growth,Driving interdisciplinary research initiatives,Enhancing academic programs,Promoting a culture of inclusivity and collaboration,Securing funding and resources,Representing the department within the broader educational and medical communities, both internally and externally.The ideal candidate will be an accomplished researcher and educator with a proven track record of contributing to research and teaching goals. Given the broad nature of the field, the department welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds beyond Physiology and Biophysics, including but not limited to Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and related disciplines. A PhD or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) is required, and the candidate must meet the criteria for a senior faculty position as set by the School of Medicine. This position requires a dedication to scientific and academic excellence, offering the chance to significantly influence the future direction of the department and the institution.
