Job Description
Research Scientist, Fibrosis BiologyGilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and highly motivated Research Scientist to join our Fibrosis biology group. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes innovative approaches to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate will drive discovery and validation of novel anti-fibrotic therapies for chronic inflammatory and fibrotic diseases. As a member of a cross-functional team, this individual will support and lead projects across discovery research and into early development. The successful candidate will have opportunities for career growth through acquisition of new skills, experiences, and professional relationships in a fast-paced and resource-rich environment. The position is within a larger Inflammation Biology team with efforts across a breadth of therapeutic areas and the successful candidate will also participate as an engaged member of a collaborative department.Key ResponsibilitiesDrive discovery and translational research aimed at identifying and advancing novel therapeutics for fibrotic disease.Independently design, conduct and analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments to support target discovery and validation.Proactively evaluate new technologies and generate scientific hypothesis to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.Manage multiple projects simultaneously and work cross-functionally with colleagues in the inflammation biology, protein engineering, medicinal chemistry, biomarker, bioinformatics, and clinical groups.Present research findings and recommendations to senior staff, prepare research reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts, contribute to the preparation of INDs and patent filings.Knowledge, Experience and SkillsRequired qualifications:Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree and a minimum 2 years of relevant post-doctoral research experience, or drug development experience.Knowledge and hands-on experience in studying pro-fibrotic signaling pathways, fibrotic disease pathogenesis and/or fibroblast biology.Demonstrated ability to define and implement critical-path studies to support hypothesis-based research.Demonstrated record of research productivity as evidenced by first author publications in top-tier scientific journals.Strong communication skills.Preferred qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates with experience in rodent models of inflammatory or fibrotic diseases.Salary and BenefitsThe salary range for this position is: $143,225.00 - $185,350.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
