The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of United Way NWI serves as the primary leader and strategist for the organization, overseeing its overall operations, growth, and impact to advance the organization's mission of improving lives and strengthening communities.

The CEO is responsible for setting and executing the vision and strategic direction, working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, donors, and community partners to achieve organizational goals, enhance community impact, and ensure long-term sustainability while assuring a strong and cohesive team and organizational culture that works through shared values to achieve the mission. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit organization, with a proven track record in fundraising, strategic planning, and community engagement.

Strong understanding of nonprofit management, fundraising, and community engagement.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans and drive organizational success

Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills

Experience working with a Board of Directors and managing diverse teams.

Passion for social impact and community service.

Project and/or program management experience with a demonstrated ability to develop, implement and execute to achieve intended results.

Experience working within and across a broad range of systems including interfacing with community-based organizations, nonprofits, government, and system-level stakeholders required

Knowledge of the Northwest Indiana region highly preferred

Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan in alignment with its mission and vision.

Guide the Board of Directors in setting long-term goals and strategies.

Foster innovation and adaptive strategies to address emerging community needs.

Operational Management:

Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring effective and efficient management of resources.

Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial health and sustainability while continually seeking to drive efficiency and cost savings.

Implement robust systems for tracking and evaluating organizational and program performance.

Fundraising and Development:

Lead the organization’s fundraising efforts to secure financial resources and build strong donor relationships.

Develop and execute strategies for increasing revenue through campaigns, grants, and other sources.

Engage with major donors, sponsors, and other organizations nurturing long-term partnerships.

Maximize revenue income as well as the efficiency with which administrative expenses are utilized.

Community Engagement:

Represent United Way NWI in the community, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, businesses, and nonprofits.

Advocate for community needs and promote United Way NWI’s mission.

Coordinate with community leaders and organizations to drive collaborative efforts that align with strategic plan.

Board Relations:

Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance, build strong committee structure, and adherence to legal and ethical standards.

Provide regular communication and updates on organizational performance, challenges, and opportunities.

Support Board development and recruitment efforts.

Staff Leadership:

Build, lead, and coach a high-performing team, fostering a positive and inclusive organizational culture.

Evaluate staff for continual improvement in efficiency and effectiveness as well as provide personal and professional growth opportunities when available.

Oversee all key functions including human resources, development, programs, and finance to ensure a sound structure for staffing and culture.

Ensure effective communication and collaboration among staff members.
