What you will do
As Johnson Controls strives to accelerate business growth and digitize its Controls portfolio, the Building Automation System (BAS) and Controls business unit has an opportunity for a Product Management Director leading control system product lines including Valve & Actuator, Sensors, T-stat and PENN systems. The Director of Product Management will have the opportunity to build a winning portfolio and drive profitable business growth. This person will lead a team of 5-10 product managers and partner closely with global Sales, Engineering, Operations and Marketing. This person must be commuting distance to Glendale, WI, or able to relocate.
How you will do it
End-to-end portfolio management and business results for Controls system globally
Articulate market trends, demand drivers, customer needs, and competitive landscape to build a winning portfolio.
Closely partner with 80/20 workstream leaders to transform the responsible product lines.
Work with the BAS product team to build the end-to-end digital building automation and control system vision, strategy and executable roadmaps.
Lead to identify opportunities for commercial partnership and M&A activities to accelerate business growth.
Conduct periodic competitive analysis and benchmarking.
Define suitable business model and pricing strategies to drive business growth, conduct periodic win loss analysis and price realization contribution.
Be the champion for resolution of product issues.
Collaborate closely with regional sales, marketing, and operations to define and deploy go-to-market strategy including channel strategy and partnerships.
Conduct market segmentation exercises to develop market segment-specific strategies and define segment-specific value propositions.
Lead the global product launch and partner closely with regional product team for successful deployment.
Define and track KPIs to the business plan and facilitate resolution to gaps for regional initiatives.
Enable sales to promote responsible portfolios via marketing campaign, account planning, training, and collateral development.
What you will needRequired
Bachelor’s degree required in engineering or equivalent experience.
15 years’ experience, 5-7 years of product/service/offering management experience and leadership; growing, mentoring a team.
Ability to ensure financial and businesses commitments are met; understand when there are gaps to commitments and can identify solutions/corrective actions to close the gap.
Deep understanding of the various types of business models (subscription, product or service delivery, distribution, etc).
Understand strategic and market levers to pull to build successful growth plans.
Ability to use industry knowledge to shape and lead change in the industry (i.e. industry standards).
Ability to take calculated risks, utilizing facts and data and scenario planning tools.
Deep understanding of value pricing and value capture models, ability to focus on total cost of ownership versus price per unit.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize activities and actions that can be taken in developing a business or strategic plan; ability to say “no”.
Strong VOC skill set and ability; seeks to understand customer experiences, provides meaningful VOC insights to drive business implications (i.e. NPI, tradeoffs, growth opportunities, etc.)
Ability to travel – up to 25%.
