Job SummaryThe Varsity Tennis Coach will be responsible for leading and managing the tennis program at the varsity level. This role includes developing and implementing training programs, fostering a positive and competitive environment, and guiding student-athletes to achieve their highest potential both on and off the court. The coach will serve as a role model and mentor, ensuring that the team members grow in their skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This individual will embody the mission of Brookstone School by demonstrating their commitment to our core values of loyalty, courage, wisdom, honor, service, respect, and leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesCoaching & Development:Design and implement effective practice plans, focusing on skill development, strategy, and physical conditioning.Provide individualized feedback and guidance to student-athletes to improve their performance.Teach and guide the fundamentals of tennis, including technique, game strategy, and rules.Team Management:Oversee the selection and management of the varsity team roster.Coordinate all aspects of matches, including scheduling, transportation, and equipment management.Ensure that all team members adhere to school policies, including academic eligibility and code of conduct.Foster a team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect.Leadership & Mentorship:Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes, promoting the values of integrity, discipline, and perseverance.Provide leadership in resolving conflicts or challenges that arise within the team.Encourage academic success and support the personal development of student-athletes.Administrative Duties:Communicate regularly with the Athletic Department regarding the status and needs of the program.Maintain accurate records of player statistics, team performance, and practice attendance.Ensure compliance with all school and athletic association policies.Work with the Girl’s Tennis Coach to manage the tennis program’s budget, including ordering and maintaining equipment and uniforms.Qualifications:Proven experience coaching tennis at the high school or collegiate level; experience coaching boys’ teams is preferred.Strong knowledge of the rules, strategies, and techniques of tennis.Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.Ability to work effectively with high school students, parents, faculty, and administration.Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment.CPR/First Aid certification is required; certification must be obtained prior to the start of the season if not already certified.Must pass a background check as required by the school district.Education:Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field.Experience playing competitive tennis at the collegiate or professional level.Prior experience in high school or youth athletic coaching.Physical Requirements:The position requires attendance at all practices, matches, and team events, including evenings and weekends during the tennis season. The coach may also be expected to attend meetings and events outside of the regular season, including team tryouts, preseason conditioning, and fundraising events.
