Your Impact at Ascend Analytics
The Director of Energy Analytics and Trading will lead a team of analysts and support leading-edge decision analysis for Ascend SmartBidder customers operating storage and renewable assets in wholesale power markets. You will help clients understand power market dynamics and partner with them to develop bidding strategies that best respond to evolving market conditions while delineating and aligning to their desired risk-return profile. You will independently lead analysis to provide deeper insight into market participation, market rules, and more to help drive differentiated performance for our customers.
You will help develop and mentor a team that independently and proactively identifies opportunities for analytical insight, coaching them through the analysis and refinement of results into client-ready communications, contributing to our culture of ownership and innovation. One must exhibit high levels of leadership and professionalism at all times, including in client engagements. We are seeking talented individuals with a serious commitment to energy analytics and the evolution of the grid towards greater renewable and storage penetration.
Job Responsibilities
Lead a team of analysts to provide quantitative analysis, market insights, and client support to optimize resource bidding in live operations
Provide clients with clearly-communicated expertise in the areas of wholesale market participation, market rules, and risk management
Devise new approaches to represent results that provide support for decision analysis
Assimilate complex information into readily understood reports and presentations for internal, client, and external use
Support clients through onboarding of their asset and navigating questions of ISO protocols
Contribute to identification and scoping of new capabilities, optimization approaches, market rule requirements, etc. for power market operations and bid optimization
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree economics, engineering, or energy-relevant disciplines
8+ years of energy industry experience, including knowledge of deregulated power market operations such as physical and financial trading, scheduling, energy management, and energy marketing
Demonstrated track record of working with clients and teams to deliver unique insight
Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, and work ethic to develop trust with clients
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Understanding of energy modeling system and methods
Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and problem-solve with minimal supervision
Passion for power markets and helping drive the energy transition
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with trading and/or scheduling specifically for batteries, renewables, or hybrid assets
Experience in risk management
Deep knowledge of power market operating protocols, rules, and stakeholder processes
Proficient in excel and Python for supporting clients with our software and analyzing large data sets
Demonstrated experience in project and/or people management preferable
Graduate degree; economics, engineering, and energy-relevant disciplines preferable

Ascend Analytics is located in Boulder, CO.
This position is a hybrid role in our Boulder, CO office, however, we will consider remote for the right candidate.
Total
Compensation: $225,000 - $270,000
Total compensation includes a competitive base salary, bonus and equity.
Negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Ascend highly values our employees and often pays above industry average.
