DescriptionDirector of Business Development Position ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership:Provide strategic leadership and vision for the business development team, aligning their efforts with the overall goals of the company.Ensure revenue goals and margins are met by branches and divisions.Team Management:Recruit, lead, and manage a team of business development professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure the team's success.Follow and advocate company processes in the management and development of employees.Display professionalism in appearance, demeanor, and communications.Treat everyone with respect, be open to feedback and suggestions from others, and always be willing to listen.Act with integrity, being honest and ethical in dealings with others, and always put the interests of the business first.Communicate effectively and concisely to convey ideas to others yet listen to feedback of others.Motivate the team to achieve their goals, setting clear expectations and recognizing and rewarding accomplishments.Adapt to change by identifying new opportunities, seeing challenges, accepting the direction of the company or clients, and making quick decisions to alter course to effectively respond to them.Strategic Planning and Execution:Develop and implement strategic plans for business development, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategy and objectives.Assist branch and operations managers with projections for budgets.Be able to articulate the vision of the division and inspire a team to work towards achieving it.Partnership and Alliance Management:Oversee the identification, negotiation, and management of strategic partnerships and alliances that contribute to the company's growth and market presence.Market Analysis and Opportunity Assessment:Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and threats in the building technology industry.Evaluate potential business opportunities and assess their viability and strategic fit for the company.High-Level Client Relationship Management:Engage with key clients at a high level, building and maintaining strong relationships to understand their evolving needs and ensure client satisfaction.Revenue Growth and Financial Performance:Take a lead role in developing and executing strategies to drive revenue growth and improve the company's financial performance.Cross-Functional Collaboration:Collaborate with other departments, such as sales, marketing, IT, engineering, and finance, to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to business development activities.Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A):Play a role on the team to evaluate potential mergers, acquisitions, or partnerships that align with the company's growth strategy.Lead due diligence efforts and integration processes for successful M&A activities as directed by the CEO.Industry Representation:Represent the company at a high level in industry events, conferences, and forums to enhance the company's profile and reputation.Participate at a board level in industry organizations to cultivate relationships and brand the company to the organization and its membership.Risk Management and Compliance:Monitor and manage risks associated with business development activities, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.Reporting and Analysis:Provide regular reports and analysis to senior leadership, highlighting key performance indicators and progress toward business development goals.RequirementsDirector of Business Development QualificationsHigh School Diploma RequiredBachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Marketing preferredRelated industry or professional organization certifications and recognitions preferredFive years of high-level, client-direct sales and customer management with experience in engineering, installation, and service of building technology systems requiredTen years of sales experience in the HVAC, BAS, Security, or Professional Building Services industries with customer management for the last six years preferredMust be well-organized and analytical with strong problem-solving skills. Strategic thinker with good attention to detail and able to work in a fast-paced environment where time management and the ability to prioritize are essentialExcellent written and verbal communicationOutstanding communication and interpersonal skills including presentation and relationship-building skillsSuccessful with consultative selling, account planning, and relationship buildingSuccess with large account development and management at multiple levelsTeam oriented, but comfortable working independentlyCommitted to excellence, continuous improvement and achieving successUnderstanding of the construction, service business theory, and aspects of general constructionUnderstanding of the current and future capabilities of the service being provided and maintained by the company, and customers being servedAbility to quickly adapt to company business models and develop results-driven processes and procedures that create efficiency and results
