The Head of Casualty role drives one of the largest Casualty and Professional Lines portfolios in the US Reinsurance market. In addition, it is part of the overall Executive Leadership Team for MR North America (P&C Re). The Head of Casualty will lead several Casualty Treaty Teams responsible for the underwriting of Auto Liability, General Liability, Professional Lines, and Workers Compensation lines of business. This position reports to the CEO and is an integral part of the development and the execution of our Casualty and overall Business Strategy.

Manages all aspects of the US Casualty Treaty Underwriting unit within Munich Re North America (P&C Re). Individually and in conjunction with Underwriting Managers of each team, core responsibilities include:

Drive the performance of the Casualty portfolio in close cooperation with our clients and intermediaries.

Develop and execute our overall Casualty strategy.

Manage the underwriting process to ensure efficiency as well as underwriting and pricing integrity of the Casualty treaty portfolio.

Ensure underwriting practices are consistent with MR Group and MR NA guidelines and best practices.

Identify opportunities to further develop underwriting and portfolio management capabilities including use of data analytics and digitalization.

Develop talent across the MR Group.

Operate as a thought leader, internally and externally, promoting MR Group Casualty expertise. Take the lead in creating solutions and resolving problems.

Successful candidates will possess the following:

Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred.

10+ years of progressively responsible Insurance and/or Reinsurance experience preferably in Casualty.

5+ years Staff Management experience preferred.

Strong understanding of Actuarial principles applicable to reinsurance pricing and portfolio management.

Strong understanding of Legal concepts and interpretation applicable to Liability lines of business and reinsurance contract wording.

Ability to design and implement strategy.

Demonstrate exceptional market expertise which includes understanding the competitor landscape.

Exceptional communication, interpersonal and presentation skills that include the ability to convey a vision and client-focused solutions as well as explain complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong strategic thinker.

Excellent negotiation and consultative skills.

Entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual curiosity.

Willingness to travel (about 25%).
