Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Career Communities, the Associate Director leads a staff who assists advanced degree students as they navigate exploring and validating their career industry of choice as well as preparing and pursuing experiences relevant to their career goals. The Associate Director is an experienced advisor with strong advising skills, possesses an ability to lead individuals and groups of students through careful self-assessment, clarify goals and interests, make informed decisions and connect with peers, employers, alumni, and faculty who share interest in this career field to source the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviors to pursue a career in this industry. The Associate Director must also be an inclusive, positive, team player who takes a holistic approach to student success, encouraging students to be reflective in their learning and to demonstrate social responsibility and a commitment to service. The Associate Director will lead a team of 2 practitioners in coordinating and executing learning and connections for the betterment of students’ career development.
Specific Responsibilities
The position oversees the programs and services for graduate students with a specific focus on terminal degree students. The position also supervises 2 staff who coordinate programs and services for Master’s students.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least four -seven years of related experience in career placement.
Qualifications

Master’s degree in related field and at least three to five years of related experience in career advising and relevant community building and engagement
Prior experience supervising professional staff
Must be able to relate well to a diverse student body, understand the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds, and be committed to advancing diversity
Team player, inclusive, positive outlook
Ability to take initiative and create new programming
Preferred Qualifications
Focused experiences with terminal degree students and related responsibilities closely aligned to this student populations.
Four to seven years of experience working in a college or university advisory role.
Familiar with key trends and topics in career advising for advanced degree students such as: core competencies, promising practices for preparation, and strategies that ensure the highest probability of success over time.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Master Degree in higher education, management, counseling, education or other related course of study.
Computer Skills
Familiarity and proficiency with career management platforms such as Handshake
Supervisory Responsibilities
