In 2011, Riviera Preparatory School moved to a new, state-of-the-art facility on almost 14 acres located just minutes away from the original campus and now serves students in grades 6-12.

Role Overview

The Assistant Head of Day School is responsible for working in coordination with the Head of School at Riviera Day School to ensure that all students in grades 1-5 are learning at high levels of academic excellence by supporting and supervising teachers, evaluating programming, establishing and monitoring the curriculum, and operating in partnership with parents, staff and students. The Assistant Head of Day School also assists with the design of life skills and school culture initiatives in coordination with the School Counselor and Head of School.

Responsibilities & Duties

Supervision & Staff Development (1-5 Grade Teachers & Assistant Teachers)

Conduct regular classroom observations of teachers in grades 1-5 and in special areas to provide constructive feedback to teachers, recognizing their strengths and identifying areas for improvement.

Foster a culture of continuous growth by promoting open dialogue and sharing best practices among educators.

Identify the professional development needs of teachers and instructional staff through observation, data analysis, and collaboration.

Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions to enhance teachers' instructional strategies, content knowledge, and classroom management skills.

Encourage participation in external professional development opportunities to keep educators abreast of the latest educational trends and research.

School Culture

Identify opportunities for students in grades 1-5 to build community, celebrate, and honor traditions with one another on a recurring basis.

Manage the planning and execution of the 5 grade promotion ceremony and 5 grade end-of-year activities and traditions.

Oversee the Student Government Association campaigns, elections, induction, monthly meetings, and supports the implementation of SGA events and initiatives.

Manage the Honors Society designation process.

Partner with parents to encourage healthy and supportive connections to the school community.

Engage in and lead parent meetings as necessary.

Work with the school’s Counselor to address any areas of concern or areas of need specific to students’ social-emotional wellbeing.

Vertical Responsibilities

Work in collaboration with the Head of School for RDS to organize, plan, and implement Field Day logistics for all students.

Support and supervise the following “Specials” classes: Academic Enrichment, Spanish, Coding, and Media.

Along with the Assistant Head of School, PK3-K, supports oversight of the aftercare, summer camp, and early care programs.

Leading the master scheduling process for all grades.

Oversee the process of planning field trips, special guests, or other events for grades PK-1.

Along with the RDS leadership team, prepares and sends report cards to families.

Other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Executive Director.

Curriculum Development

Collaborate with the Head of School to review, refine, and enhance the school's 1 – 5 grade curriculum to meet state and district standards.

Ensure curriculum alignment with the school's mission and vision, promoting a coherent and rigorous learning experience for all students.

Monitor curriculum implementation, gather feedback from teachers, and make data-driven adjustments to improve instructional outcomes.

Evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs and initiatives, seeking input from teachers, parents, and students to ensure continuous improvement.

Collaborate with the Head of School and curriculum specialists to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Assess materials and supplies for each grade level and work with the RDS leadership team to ensure that staff have the necessary resources to implement high level teaching.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master's degree (preferred) in Education or a related field (Educational Leadership, Curriculum Development, etc.).

2+ years of school leadership experience.

Deep understanding of educational best practices, current trends, and research in curriculum design and instructional strategies.

Possesses an unwavering belief in the potential of students and a positive and proactive approach to his/her work in an educational setting.

Proven organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work in autonomy and adjust to changes.

Proactive leader who strives for excellence.

Proven track record in strategic planning, project management, group coordination, working and communicating with diverse stakeholders.

Ability to partner with parents, students, staff and external stakeholders in a collaborative, positive and proactive manner.

Detail-oriented, collaborative, and a team player.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

High level of discretion and professionalism in dealing with confidential information.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $98,000.00 per year
