The responsibilities of the Senior Network Engineer are the operational management, testing, and change implementation of network security infrastructure. Minimum five years working and hands-on experience in a complex IT infrastructure environment is required, preferably in a financial industry. The candidate should be able to work collaboratively in a team or as an individual contributor and be adaptable and flexible to changing business situations as needed.Your key responsibilities include:Installation, configuration, and upgrade hardware, systems, and software for networksManagement of network and security performance by monitoring, troubleshooting, reporting, and continuous improvement to optimise performance.Identify, analyse, and manage risk at every aspect of work.Document network problems and resolution for future reference.Management of network system backup and restore services.Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies, defining and monitoring accessMaintain job knowledge by undertaking internal and external vendor courses, certifications, etc.Updating operational documentation.Undertake project design and architecture work, like high-level and detailed design work.Design backup and recovery procedures and plan and undertake Disaster Recovery and testing procedures to ensure effective Disaster Recovery plans are developed, documented, tested, and implemented.Undertake problem determination and root cause analysis to ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented appropriately.Plan and review proposed changes. Test and implement where applicable to ensure successful implementation of infrastructure changes.Make recommendations and assist in the design and implementation of technology infrastructure solutions and support project delivery groups to ensure the development and maintenance of effective technology infrastructure within the Westpac Group.Provide input into the planning of future infrastructure requirements, conduct all aspects of capacity planning, performance monitoring, and tuning of specific infrastructure components, liaise with software vendors to determine fixes and upgrades available and investigate and install new releases and patches to ensure the stability and availability of technology infrastructure services to the business.Provide technical consultation to business/technology stakeholders to support relevant infrastructure partners and other business stakeholders.What do I needStrong hands-on and recent experience with firewalls (Juniper SRX, Checkpoint, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.)Load Balancing design, build, and implementation experience (F5 – LTM, GTM, APM, ASM)Enterprise Switching and Routing configuration experience (BGP/OSPF, VXLAN, VTP, BFD)IPS/IDS policy configuration, implementation, and events analysis.Able to demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement, converting business requirements into technical requirementsExposure and working knowledge of logging platforms like Elastic, Splunk, etc.Exposure to monitoring tools like Infoblox, Netscout, Solarwinds, Thousand Eyes, Accedian, etc.Automation and scripting skills (Python, JSON, Ansible, etc.)Working knowledge of Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, etc.), SD-WAN, etc.Understanding of micro-segmentation (e.g., VMware NSX-T DFW)At Westpac, we’re all about creating a supportive culture and ensuring our workplaces, branches, products, and services are accessible and inclusive for everyone—our customers, employees, and the wider community.
