Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Systems Safety Engineer (24-336) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight.
Essential Functions:
As a Systems Safety Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and reliability of our systems. Your responsibilities include:
Engineering and developing program safety plans to apply safety policies and guidance effectively within the engineering team.
Providing support to MDA and other program personnel as required, including participating in System Safety Working Groups.
Contributing to systems engineering tasks, integration of product lines, and generation of capable specifications.
Integrating the product lines.
Training less experienced personnel in Systems Engineering and Safety techniques.
Reviewing technical products and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts on an as-required basis.
Ability to analyze high-level needs and refine the need into an integrated set of hardware and software.
Basic Qualifications:
An active Secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
5 years' experience with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; 3 years' experience with a master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; or 9 years' experience in lieu of a degree.
A background in system engineering specializing in system and software safety is essential.
Experience developing safety documentation (SAR, SRA, SSPP) and identifying hazards.
Must possess knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and apply engineering principles to recommend safety-centric design features.
System and software systems engineering experience required to develop new and integrate existing systems.
Experience in developing and integrating hardware and software to meet complex system requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Top Secret clearance is highly desired.
Some travel may be required.

Salary Range:
$97,500 - $146,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
