GENERAL SUMMARYThe Network Administrator will assist the Information Technology team in deploying and maintaining technology infrastructure throughout Lincoln Park Zoo. The Network Administrator, under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, will work with the team to manage the zoo’s fiber optic network, switching infrastructure, servers, closed circuit cameras, workstations, and phones.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Help support users with phone, remote and hands-on support on all technology from user workstations through network infrastructure.

Manage workloads through the zoo’s ticket tracking system.

Participate in technology and technology-adjacent projects to keep the zoo operating efficiently.

Assist with the regular maintenance of zoo network and server infrastructure.

Liaise with outside support vendors who provide additional technical resources to the Information Technology Team.

Serve as a technical resource to the zoo IT Team, including cross-training and writing documentation.

Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of network and internet technologies including: VMWare, Cisco Meraki, HPE/Aruba Switches and Fiber Optic Cabling.

Experience/Understanding of the deployment and maintenance of networked closed-circuit camera technology.

Thorough understanding of Windows 10/11 and all desktop versions of Windows OS.

Skill in management of Windows Server, Microsoft Office 365 (with Exchange 365), MS Active Directory with Group Policy.

Experience deploying and supporting audio/visual equipment.

Effective interpersonal skills in teaching and individual instruction.

Strong customer service skills including demonstrated success in written and verbal communication.

Ability to work independently at times and as part of a team.

Ability to organize tasks and time to ensure timely completion of all projects.

Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisors, fellow employees, volunteers, zoo visitors and the general public.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school degree or equivalent

required.

Bachelor’s or Associate degree in computer science, information systems or related technology field

preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

5+ years of experience as a help desk technician, systems/network administrator, and/or IT support staff required.

Experience working with network and server management support.

Note: A comparable combination of education, experience or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and ability may qualify an individual.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work in an open office environment.

Ability to work in confined, sometimes poorly lit and climate-controlled spaces for short periods.

Ability to bend, stoop, reach, climb, and lift 30 pounds.

Ability to navigate zoo grounds to escort vendors, arrange for meetings, and to meet with staff in various locations around the zoo.

Ability to work inside and out of all zoo facilities in all weather conditions.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSIn an effort to minimize impact on zoo operations, may be required to work outside of normal business hours (i.e., evenings and weekends) to complete projects, maintenance, and upgrades. Although the position requires a majority of work time to be on grounds, some hybrid work is available but this position will work primarily in the office.

Attend and work special events, as assigned, that may occur outside of regular work hours.

This position reports to the Director of Information Technology.

Salary: $90,000-$100,000
