This care will be delivered using a collaborative health care model including physicians, nursing/medical assistant staff, patients, families, and other supportive health care providers working together to provide a holistic approach to quality patient care. The PA will exercise clinical leadership through clinical practice, consultation, staff, patient and family education, research, and professional development.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Assess, manage, prescribe, and evaluate appropriate therapeutic and pharmacological interventions for common illnesses according to standards of practice. Assist in surgery. Consult or make referrals to primary care physicians, other health care professionals, or agencies when a situation is beyond their level of expertise or when additional services are needed to coordinate their health care.SKILLS AND ABILITIES of Physician Assistant:Ability to discriminate between normal and abnormal findings in the history and physical exam in order to establish a diagnosis.Ability to assess the severity of patients' illness and establish need/time for patient's evaluation.Ability to plan and care for patients identified problem including medication, diet, therapeutic procedures, etc.Ability to consult with other health team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines.Ability to form therapeutic relationships with patients.Demonstrate appropriate communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; and ability to maintain positive relationships with physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel.Demonstrate leadership and advanced clinical decision-making skills.Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to diverse populations.Demonstrate responsibility for continual professional development and commitment to advanced practice nursing.Must be self-directed, creative, and able to work independently.Good physical and mental health.QUALIFICATIONS of Physician Assistant:Education:Must have a valid CT PA LicenseMust have a current DEAMust have a National Commission on Certification of Physician AssistantsExperience:2-3 Years experience in clinical setting providing direct patient care preferred.JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES of Physician Assistant:Assist in surgery.Possesses ability to assess data reflective of the patients' status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs.Establishes a diagnosis, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the patient and their family, and evaluates clinical outcomes through follow-up visits and/or telephone contact.Orders, obtains, and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests when indicated according to standards of practice and/or in collaboration with physicians.Thoroughly documents findings of physical and developmental assessment and plan of care in a systematic manner.Consults/collaborates with interdisciplinary team members regarding assessment and implementation of the plan of care and evaluation of outcomes as indicated.Makes appropriate referrals to members of the health care team to optimize patient/family care.Cooperates with other professionals and agencies involved in providing services when appropriate, coordinates the health care given to promote continuity of care.Evaluates efficacy of care in achieving optimum health state, cost-effectiveness, and quality patient care.
