JOB TITLE: CHIEF PROGRAM IMPACT OFFICER

REPORTS TO: CEO

JOB SUMMARY: The Chief Program Impact Officer (CPIO) provides strategic leadership and oversight for all programmatic activities at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska. This role involves developing and driving the overall program strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. The CPIO collaborates closely with the CEO and senior leadership to integrate programmatic initiatives with organizational objectives, focusing on long-term sustainability, growth, and impact. The CPIO leads the development of new program initiatives, evaluates current programs, and makes adjustments to ensure high impact and effectiveness while also ensuring that the organization's programs are sustainable and scalable.

Essential to success is the ability to provide visionary leadership that aligns the organization's programmatic strategies with its mission and long-term goals. The CPIO must excel in strategic planning, fostering innovation, and driving organizational change, all while building strong partnerships and securing resources to support program growth and sustainability.

The primary outcome to be achieved by the program under the leadership of the Chief Program Impact Officer is to enhance the overall impact and reach of the organization's mentoring programs. By developing and executing strategic initiatives, the CPIO will ensure that programs are high-quality, sustainable, and scalable, leading to positive, measurable outcomes for the youth and communities served.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:

Lead the development and execution of BBBSAK's multi-year strategic plan as a key member of the senior leadership team, collaborating with C-suite executives to shape the overall organizational strategy. Spearhead the implementation of program-related initiatives, translating high-level strategies into actionable annual plans, budgets, priorities, and projects that drive the achievement of BBBSAK's goals.

Collaborate closely with the CEO and Board to shape the organization’s programmatic vision and strategic direction, ensuring alignment with BBBSAK’s mission and long-term objectives.

Develop and lead service delivery strategies that support organizational growth, impact, and sustainability, while upholding the organization’s vision and values.

Partner with senior leadership to support fundraising efforts, cultivate key partnerships, and expand BBBSAK's influence and reach within the community.

Program Development & Oversight:

Directs the development, evaluation, and improvement of all programs to ensure they are effective and aligned with strategic objectives. Focuses on expanding reach and innovating to meet the needs of youth in Alaska.

Oversee all program areas to ensure alignment with the strategic plan and organizational objectives, incorporating a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) approach and prioritizing child safety.

Develop new program initiatives & enhancements and evaluate current programs to ensure high impact and effectiveness.

Use data-driven approaches to set goals, monitor performance, and adjust strategies for continuous improvement.

Engage with program participants, including Bigs, Littles, and families, to ensure their voices inform program design and delivery.

Team Management:

Leads, mentors, and supports program staff, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing work environment. Emphasizes team development, accountability, and professional growth, empowering them to make thoughtful decisions, and fostering individual autonomy.

Provide leadership and direction to senior program staff, including the Director of Program Impact.

Foster a high-performing, innovative culture, encouraging staff to take initiative and solve challenges.

Inspire and empower teams to excel and align their efforts with the organization’s mission and goals.

Budget & Resource Management:

Drive the strategic management of BBBSAK’s program budget and resources, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and long-term sustainability. Lead high-level resource planning, collaborating with C-suite executives and the Development team to secure diverse funding sources and optimize financial stability.

Oversee and strategically manage the overall program budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources.

Lead resource planning initiatives to align financial and operational resources with strategic goals and growth targets.

Proactively collaborate with the Development team to co-create comprehensive funding strategies, actively pursue funding opportunities, and spearhead the development of grant applications.

Engage directly with donors, funders, and key stakeholders to secure financial support, ensuring the sustainability and expansion of program initiatives.

Partnership Development & Community Engagement:

Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders to enhance program impact and sustainability. Serves as a key connector with community organizations, external partners, and other departments to advance BBBSAK's mission.

Cultivate relationships with community organizations, funders, and partners to expand the organization’s reach.

Collaborate with other departments, such as Advancement, Operations and Finance, and Donation Center, to ensure program needs are met and opportunities for collaboration are maximized.

Represent BBBSAK in community settings, advocating for the organization’s mission and building strategic partnerships.

Contribute to agency-wide events and initiatives, including recruitment, fundraising, event management, and community outreach.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

Ensures all programs meet high standards of quality and comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. Focuses on continuous improvement and accountability.

Implement robust systems for quality assurance, using data to monitor program performance and outcomes.

Ensure compliance with BBBSA Standards of Practice and other regulatory requirements, conducting regular assessments.

Work with program staff and other departments to develop and communicate clear measures of impact and effectiveness.

Focus on JEDI Principles:

Champion the integration of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) throughout the organization, embedding these principles into all levels of programmatic work and organizational culture.

Lead efforts to embed JEDI values into program design, implementation, and evaluation.

Foster an inclusive culture, ensuring that diversity and equity are prioritized across all aspects of the organization.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

All candidates will possess an excitement to make a meaningful impact in supporting the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska. While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes and experiences:

Program Leadership and Strategic Management

Required:

Minimum of ten years of relevant experience, including at least five years in a senior leadership role within a youth development or social service organization.

Required:

Proven experience managing complex programs, with a track record of successfully leading program initiatives from design through execution.

Preferred:

Lived experience or deep understanding of the challenges faced by the youth we serve, particularly underrepresented or marginalized groups, is highly valued. Candidates who have navigated these challenges themselves or have directly worked with such communities will be given strong consideration.

Strategic Impact

Required:

Advanced understanding of nonprofit budgeting, resource management, and funding strategies. Ability to align financial resources with strategic goals and ensure organizational sustainability.

Required:

Deep commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, with the ability to integrate these principles into all aspects of organizational and programmatic work.

Preferred:

Experience navigating and leading change in diverse institutional contexts.

Team Management and Development

Required:

Experience in mentoring, either through formal programs or informal settings, with a demonstrated ability to guide, support, and develop others.

Required:

Strong ability to build and nurture high-performing, inclusive teams. Demonstrated success in fostering a positive, accountable, and innovative work environment.

Preferred:

Proficiency in applying strengths-based approaches to team management and development, with experience in leveraging individual strengths to enhance team performance and cohesion.

Program Operations and Efficiency

Required:

Extensive experience in developing, implementing, and scaling programs that deliver measurable impact.

Preferred:

Skilled in using data to drive decisions and improve program quality and outcomes.

Communications and Community Engagement

Required:

Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organization’s vision and mission to diverse audiences.

Required:

Experience cultivating and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including funders, community organizations, board members, and external partners.

Preferred:

A strong connection to or understanding of the diverse communities served by BBBSAK, including Alaska Native populations, is highly valued. Candidates who bring personal or professional insights into the cultural backgrounds and experiences of these communities will be strongly considered.

Preferred:

Skilled public speaker.

Budgeting and Financial Management

Required:

Proven ability to lead at a senior level, shaping organizational strategy and influencing outcomes across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Preferred:

Significant budgeting and financial management experience within the nonprofit sector.

Educational Requirements

Required:

High School Diploma.

Preferred:

Advanced degree, especially with specializations in related disciplines like Nonprofit Management, Education, Social Work, or related fields.

Physical Requirements

This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, and filing cabinets. The role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for approximately 60% of the time.

Travel Requirements

Candidates must have the ability to travel within the communities we serve, including occasional nights and weekends. Travel is expected to be 5-15%.

Pay: $73,000.00 - $103,000.00 per year
