DescriptionJoin our Department of Social and Health Services, Technology Innovation Administration, where you’ll have an enterprise-wide impact on the accessibility of information.

You’ll be a subject matter expert leading efforts to ensure an accessible digital experience for agency employees, clients, and customers, meeting their disability needs. You’ll provide guidance and consultation on federal and state accessibility laws and standards, digital access strategies, and will promote universal design principles. You’ll advocate for training and technical support, research and implement accessibility policies, and engage with statewide coalitions to enhance digital content usability across the agency.
You’ll aim to remove barriers to access, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and align agency efforts with its core mission.
This job can be located anywhere statewide and we offer a telework schedule.
Some of what you’ll do
Apply and advise on federal and state laws for equal access for people with disabilities, ensuring compliance with ADA Title I and II.
Serve as the designated expert on digital accessibility standards, providing guidance on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
Advocate for digital accessibility and represent the agency in various councils and committees.
Supervise and provide training and technical support to staff, fostering a culture of inclusivity and ensuring accessibility in digital initiatives.
Work with key representatives across departments to implement accessibility standards and ensure effective communication.
Lead the development of procedures to establish and maintain compliance with digital accessibility requirements.
Develop plans for remediating digital content to meet accessibility standards, prioritizing high-usage content.
Establish metrics and goals to evaluate the effectiveness of the digital accessibility program and report progress to leadership.
Analyze policies and practices to align with evolving accessibility needs and maintain industry best practices.
Create and conduct workshops to raise awareness and build capacity around digital accessibility best practices.
We’re looking for an IT Accessibility Professional withA bachelor's degree in public or business management, human services, social sciences, digital technology, or a related field. (Additional experience can substitute year-for-year for the degree)
And five years of experience in the following:
Working in a public service or human service agency.
Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and guidelines.
Supervisory experience.
Creating and remediating content using standard applications, including Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF, and commonly used media content platforms.
Presenting to groups of people, developing training content, and delivering accessible training content both in person and online using common remote work platforms such as Teams or Zoom.
Developing, implementing, and managing plans and projects that impact and require participation from a wide range of stakeholders.
Desired
Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or ADA Coordinator.
Completion of the Department of Homeland Security Trusted Tester program.
Project management, lean/continuous improvement, or change management training/certification.
Professional mediation training/certification; experience facilitating difficult conversations and conflict resolution.
Completion of comprehensive training related to digital accessibility.
Demonstrated understanding of how proactive equity, anti-racism, and access planning strategies are operationalized across departmental policy, programs, and practices.
