Principal Planner
to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the long-term growth and development of our community.What You'll Do:Lead the Way:
Oversee and manage long-range planning projects from conception to completion, ensuring successful implementation of the community's vision.Strategic Visionary:
Lead city-wide and departmental initiatives, including neighborhood plans, corridor plans, comprehensive plans, technical plans, and redevelopment plans.Policy Expert:
Prepare comprehensive plan amendments, sub-area plans, and master plans, and oversee ordinance or text changes for amendments to the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan.Collaborative Leader:
Develop project scopes of work, including assessments, zoning policy and regulations, public involvement processes, data analysis functions, timelines, and budgets.Data-Driven Decision Maker:
Collect and analyze data, formulate recommendations, prepare reports, and create compelling visual materials (graphics, maps, charts) to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.Community Champion:
Direct community engagement efforts on long-range planning initiatives, code amendments, and legislative rezoning.Trusted Advisor:
Provide strategic planning advice on long-range and short-term initiatives, develop policy and strategic alternatives regarding planning goals, and offer recommendations on high-profile or sensitive issues to planning staff, city officials, boards, commissions, the public, and stakeholders.Empowering Mentor:
Supervise and mentor a talented team of planning professionals, fostering their growth and development.Communication Powerhouse:
Superior interpersonal, conflict resolution, and public speaking skills. Exceptional technical, graphic, mathematical, computer, general office, and organizational skills.Team Player:
Ability to negotiate solutions, focus on details, establish and maintain effective working relationships, coordinate multiple projects, work independently, and suggest workable solutions.Hiring Salary:
The hiring range is $50.28 - $55.87/hour, dependent upon experience.We care about our employees and offer a generous

TBDMinimum Qualifications:Master’s degree in Planning, Urban Design or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of experience in planning, or Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Design or related field from an accredited college or university with eight years of planning experience. Two years of supervisory or lead work experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
