We are currently hiring an Associate in San Francisco to join the Growth Equity team, which sits within the Private Equity department. The Growth Equity team’s mission is to provide CPP Investments with strong returns and insights into the innovation ecosystem by making fund commitments and aligned direct investments alongside of the top venture and growth managers across North America and Europe. Today, the team consists of 13 experienced professionals with offices in Toronto and San Francisco and is continuing to grow.In this role, you will be actively involved in undertaking company and fund diligence and execution, building relationships with leading companies and funds, monitoring and tracking existing and future investments. You will have significant exposure to disruptive companies and top-tier investors across the venture and growth-stage ecosystem.As the ideal candidate, you are recognized for your team-oriented and self-starter approach, with critical and innovative thinking. You have started to build a track record in investing and asset management, with venture/growth stage experience and/or technology exposure as a plus. You have started to lead workstreams independently in a project and take ownership of outcomes. You are an effective communicator who can participate in investment committees and management discussions; build a relationship of trust with key partners and stakeholders; and support/manage the execution of investment and asset management initiatives.What you will do:Research, analyze, and execute fund and direct investments. This includes review of diligence materials, meetings with management teams and fund partners, financial modeling and scenario analysis, investment memo execution, and facilitation of other internal and external diligence streams (e.g. internal operations, external counsel)Help manage existing fund relationships alongside senior relationship managers to monitor fund performance and surface direct investment opportunitiesMonitor existing direct investments and support asset management initiatives.Participate in other initiatives to help execute on strategy goals for the Growth Equity group, the Private Equity department, and the broader fundCollaborate with other teams/departments across the organization on a regular basisQualifications
Preference for individuals with 3 - 5 years of investment banking, consulting and/or investment experience. Prior experience with growth-stage investing and fund investing is a plus.A genuine passion for disruptive technology investing, building relationships with fund partners, and solving complex business problemsExcellent research, financial modeling, and analytical skillsSuperior interpersonal and relationship building skills; strong ability to work effectively in a team environment with a commitment to fostering an inclusive cultureDemonstrated ability to multi-task and juggle multiple workstreams when necessaryStrong communication skills (oral and written)Experience conducting due diligence work with tight timelines when necessaryThe desire and willingness to work in the San Francisco office 4 days a week and travel (10% - 25% time)Conduct consistent with our Guiding Principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance
