PGY2 Critical Care Residency– Tucson, AZ
The PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson is a 12-month program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The program is designed to train selected, highly motivated and highly qualified pharmacists for a critical care position in an acute care facility and/or an advanced fellowship in an area of critical care or research. The program consists of concentrated training in all aspects of critical care pharmacy practice that aims to achieve all the requirements via core learning experiences and customizable elective learning experiences.
The critical care resident’s required learning experiences include:
Surgical-trauma intensive care unit (2 months)
Medical intensive care unit (2 months)
Cardiothoracic intensive care unit (ICU)
Emergency medicine
The resident may select from elective learning experiences including pediatric ICU, neonatal ICU, nutrition support, infectious diseases, toxicology, and solid organ transplantation, among others. The integration of clinical experiences with an exemplary drug distribution system provides the resident with a solid background to enter into clinical practice post-residency. The program also requires the resident to learn and develop teaching and research techniques.
PGY2 Infectious Disease Residency- Tucson, AZ
The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson is a 12-month program designed to advance the knowledge and skills of highly motivated and qualified pharmacists in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy. The program emphasizes clinical practice and consists of nine core (required) learning experiences in specific aspects of infectious diseases pharmacy and three months of elective opportunities. Elective rotations are customized to meet the goals of the individual resident while accomplishing the objectives of the program. The pharmacy resident will also have a longitudinal HIV clinic experience built into the residency year. The program experience will allow the resident to be prepared for an advanced infectious diseases position in an acute care facility, an advanced fellowship in an area of infectious diseases, and/or a clinical faculty position upon completion of the residency.
PGY2 Oncology Residency- Tucson, AZ
The PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency Program at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson and The University of Arizona Cancer Center is a 12-month program for training residents with an interest in oncology, hematology, stem cell transplant, and investigational drug research. The program was established in 2016 and currently has one PGY2 oncology resident. Upon successful completion of the residency program, a certificate will be awarded to the resident by The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, The University of Arizona Cancer Center, and Banner - University Medical Center Tucson. The University of Arizona Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center headquartered in the state of Arizona and is engaged in over 200 clinical trials.
The PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency provides a well-rounded experience in acute and ambulatory medical oncology, hematology, and stem cell transplant. The PGY2 oncology resident will be actively involved in the therapeutic decision-making process and clinical outcomes for cancer patients. In addition, the resident will gain experiences in teaching, precepting, clinical research, and quality improvement. The philosophy of the program is to instill in the resident an oncology pharmacy practice that focuses on the pharmaceutical care model. The resident will also be prepared for board certification in oncology pharmacy upon completion of this residency.
