Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Associate (Mid-Level Attorney)
This is a stellar opportunity for a mid-level attorney to directly join a top-ranking national law firm in their Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group. Located in Chicago, IL, Kansas City, MO, Denver, CO, or Dallas, TX, this role entails working with an accomplished team dedicated to providing expert services in the design, implementation, and management of various employee benefits and executive compensation plans. This position offers the chance to engage in complex legal and tax situations, refine high-level negotiation skills, and develop bespoke benefit solutions that align with corporate client needs, supporting both their workforce and leadership structures.
Compensation:
$230,000.00 - $330,000.00
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Draft and design tax-qualified and non-qualified retirement plans.
Implement comprehensive health and welfare benefit programs.
Structure and negotiate executive compensation arrangements.
Advise on benefits and compensation aspects in mergers and acquisitions.
Manage taxation compliance of compensation arrangements, including IRC Sections 409A and 280G.
Collaborate with team members to expand and deepen national practice offerings.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
JD from a top-tier law school with a stellar academic record.
Current Bar Admission in Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, or Texas, depending on the office location.
At least 3 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law.
Proven abilities in drafting and implementing complex benefit plans.
Demonstrated experience in handling legal issues in mergers and acquisitions.
Excellent drafting, communication, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a large law firm setting focused on benefits and compensation.
Deep understanding of tax law as it pertains to employee benefits and executive compensation.
Advanced certifications or coursework in tax law or employee benefits fields.
Strong leadership qualities and the ability to mentor junior attorneys.
High level of autonomy with a proactive approach to tackling complex legal issues.
Skills:
Exceptional legal research and writing skills.
Strong negotiation and interpersonal communication skills.
Detailed-oriented with a knack for problem-solving.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambitious environment.
