We are a key partner to some of the largest and highest growth organizations in the world, enabling systems to make cities safer, cars smarter, and powering the data centers behind many of the world’s biggest companies and public cloud.The Sr. Technologist will be a technical lead who proposes and leads the development of next generation reader designs for HDD recording heads, working together with modeling, wafer process, and other engineering teams to support HDD areal density growth.Responsibilities include:Lead cross-functional engineering teams to develop and deliver next generation read head designs for magnetic recording headsDevelop design concepts, initiate and plan DOEs, conduct detailed characterization and analysis, and generate clear understanding and recommendationsExplore and recommend novel read sensor technology, providing a long-term roadmap to guide reader development and support HDD areal density growth through collaboration within the company and with outside academia institutionsMinimum Requirements:Ph.D. degree in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or related fields10 or more years of experience in magnetic recording head developmentDeep understanding of magnetic read head design, recording physics, and hard disk drive technologyIn-depth knowledge in magnetic simulation, wafer fabrication process, and device characterizationProficient in design of experiments, mathematical and statistical data analysisStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to plan and lead multidisciplinary technical projectsEqual Employment OpportunityWestern Digital is committed to providing equal opportunities to all applicants and employees and will not discriminate against any applicant or employee based on legally protected characteristics.Western Digital thrives on the power and potential of diversity.
